Devon Baxter

My name is Devon Baxter—writer, video editor and film restoration artist. I’m making this Patreon page to further my pursuits in my research of classic animation. I have written 150+ articles for Jerry Beck’s&nbsp;<a href="http://cartoonresearch.com/index.php/category/baxters-breakdowns/">Cartoon Research</a>&nbsp;blog and assisted on select books devoted to the subject. I have also been a proud contributor (video editing, research consultant and liner notes) for Tom Stathes’ Cartoons on Film in the Cartoon Roots releases of rare silent and early sound cartoons on Blu-Ray/DVD. In addition, I am doing film restoration for Steve Stanchfield’s Thunderbean Animation, an outfit that presents often-neglected animated cartoons. The most anticipated release, as of now, are two sets of&nbsp;Flip the Frog&nbsp;cartoons from the 1930s, produced by Ub Iwerks, sourced from the best surviving materials. However, there are&nbsp;some resources that would require some financial help, primarily for my research for this Patreon and the articles for Cartoon Research. These would include sites such as Newspapers.com and Ancestry, which require a paid monthly (or annual) subscription. As for film restoration, this could also help to purchase different video plug-ins in order to advance these skills.&nbsp;There are also consultations I plan to make with off-site research involving the UCLA Special Collections. However, they require a fee for scanning and sending copies of their holdings. These pledges would be beneficial for this Patreon page andAmerican animation history. For some of the&nbsp;CR pieces that require a slight revision, these updates will be made public.&nbsp;Exclusive content that has not been covered in CR will only be available to Patrons on the $3 live and above. If you choose to pledge up to $5 a month, Patrons will be able to get an insight into the progress of certain cartoons slated for video releases that have undergone clean-up work with a “before/after” comparison. (However, this may not reflect the final released product that Thunderbean releases, since Steve puts finishing touches on each film after its first clean-up session.) The collaboration between historians has been resourceful to me throughout my years as a writer and animation researcher. As I have said, this Patreon will lead to much better things.
