This tier is the most essential -- you have pledged your regular support of my work as an independent artist!!! Thank you! I will offer shoutouts on social media to this community regularly so that you can share my work with your friends!
Often, artists need a gentle nudge to ignite our creative processes. At this tier, I'll share with you excerpts of the powerful teachings of artists who inspire me, hand-picked just for us. These quotes and passages will come multiple forms -- video and photo.
With this tier, I'll invite you in on my creative process. I'll share documentation of my poem, song, and video rough drafts with you. I'll share prompts, exercises, tools, and resources that I am using to jumpstart my creativity, and hopefully yours!
About Diana Alvarez
I am a Xicana Xingona who writes soulful, bilingual music that exalts queer love and liberation. Much of what I create is inspired by growing up in the Borderlands of Tejas, losing a lot, building chosen family, and creating a life for myself that my ancestors could never have.
I am the composer/poet/producer behind Quiero Volver: A Xicanx Ritual Opera, a multimedia performance that has been described by the press as "a visually and acoustically stunning performance meant to honor women, non-binary and genderqueer people of color."
In 2018, Quiero Volver raised over $10,000 for immigrant justice at the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton, MA! I will continue to stage this opera for just causes again and again, and hope to take it on the road someday soon.
My music is fueled by my simultaneous work as an award-winning poet, documentary filmmaker, and scholar. You can see samples of my work at www.diana-alvarez.com.
I am joining the Patreon community as an independent artist ready to invite you into my creative process. This year, I am working on my debut studio EP, Ser Artista, to be released in 2020. Beyond that, I have many songs, poems, videos, and performances in me -- I'd like to take you on the journey of bringing these joyful creations into existence.
As you can see, I do many creative things. There are countless ways for us to collaborate on this medium. If you have an idea, suggest it. I hope to get to know you and share my work with you!
