Our Story

Jamie Noble Frier and Tim Simms founded DoodleMeeple in 2020 as a way to help bring the board game industry community together in a centralised hub that will give both publishers and freelancers a more intuitive way of finding and working with one another.

Jamie's background in games falls on both sides of the users DoodleMeeple aims to help. Jamie has been a board game artist and graphic designer for the past decade, and during that time published his debut board game, Hero Master, An Epic Game of Epic Fails. Gaining extensive insight into the role each sides play in a collaboration in making board games has been critical to the development of DoodleMeeple

Tim's background in web-app development has meant an ultra quick journey to public use for DoodleMeeple, and his expertise in user experience has brought incredible value to the platform.

The Industry's Problem

During his ten years working as a freelancer in the board game industry, Jamie noticed the need for a hub. A single stop where you could find and manage your work, rather than digging through forums, generic job sites or social media posts to find the next cool project.

When publishing his own game, Jamie saw the flip side of the same familiar coin. Where he'd felt aimless when looking for work in the board game industry, having to visit archaic job boards to find new publishers to work with, it became apparent publishers had the same issue. Where do you find good freelancers with a passion for board games?

It seemed like the board game industry had put its foot on the gas, booming in popularity and consumption, but forgotten to build an infrastructure to make the new games. With sites like Kickstarter, you can find the funds to make a game, but how do you get the people who know how to do it?

Our Solution

As a two-person team, DoodleMeeple has been able to stay true to its aim:
To provide an effective solution for folks who want to make board games, seasoned professionals who need a streamlined approach to finding working in this niche, and for excellent talent with transferable skills to join a burgeoning industry with exciting projects being created every day.

DoodleMeeple not only provides a niche, board game network at the fingertips of its users, not seen before, but also revolutionises the way publishers, designers, and freelancers all work together. By removing faceless job boards that result in blanket applications that neither side wants a part of, DoodleMeeple creates effective meaningful relationships between its users. Freelancers are contacted when they are needed, and our found from our filtered Creative Roster. There's no "invite all" button, publishers curate a list of Creatives that they genuinely want to work with. Meaning, Creatives only hear about projects they have the potential to work on, and publishers don't receive an inbox full of irrelevant applications they have to sift through.

Our Patreon

Both Jamie and Tim have dedicated their time and financial resources to DoodleMeeple during its inception, build, and launch. The team has experimented with ways to financially sustain the maintenance, development and awareness of the platform to continue to provide users new relationships and projects to build. After removing a commission model, which began to impact the aim of DoodleMeeple , as a barrier of entry, the team settled on a free model: Completely inclusive, where everyone could have an account and network no matter their means

For us, as board game players, makers and industry advocates, DoodleMeeple was always intended as a community tool. Bringing people together, and opening it up with the free business model has meant Jamie and Tim can focus on really exciting updates, making things fun and improving on functionality.

We continue to pour our passion and work into the platform, and will for many years to come, for this reason, we've decided to create some completely optional levels of premium membership to our site in addition to our free membership.

With our premium membership, you'll get some perks and we're committed to keeping our premium fees negligible so that you'll always feel like you're getting serious value for your small donation to the running, and improving of DoodleMeeple.
