Humans & Soil is an ongoing work-in-progress that explores humans’ relationship to earth from the perspective of native cultures such as; the Sápmi of the north, the Ainu of Japan and Maori of New Zealand.
In October I was invited by the Sámediggi organisation 'Renbruksplan' to attend a conference on the subject of Reindeer management and planning in Arvidsjaur.Renbruksplan aims to use traditional and digital means to manage an information-flow to the different Sápmi villages, and to demonstrate the problematics of governmental interference with their land rights.
In this edition, I study the culture of the Sámi from the
perspective of land and water rights - and specifically
the Reindeer Industry in Sápmi, Sweden.
Through research, participating and through in-depth studies of lifestyle routines - I wish to spread information on the desire of Sápmi people to be recognised as a Native autonomous group. To find the essence of humanity and respect for nomadic cultures to re-gain their right to their own language, culture and relationship to nature.

My journey started in Ricklundgården residency in Saxnäs, Västerbotten 2018 where I worked practically in the dance studio to create a piece built on interpretation of my research. Through working closely with a Reindeer herder of Rans Sápmi village, I chose to explore mental and physical relationship to the reindeer.
I worked with the traditional methods of preserving and drying reindeer skin, horns and meat production.

My aim is to use similar visual data combined with movement of the body and music as a communication tool to the artistic, and public performing art scene.Humans & Soil is a life-time project with the ambition to question the terminologies and cultural structures of indigenous vs native rights.

The project is seeking support to highlight and to maintain knowledge from our indigenous ways of life, and we are open for collaborators and sponsors to the project world-wide.
We would love to hear from you!
