I created HM Magazine for 28 years and ran the small business before selling it to a good friend in 2013. I continue to work in the creative and seem to thrive creatively, spiritually and emotionally when I am creating. Without even trying, in the last year I have accepted a new job (working for the Department of Agriculture) that uses my skills in writing, editing, graphic design and social media, but on the side have started work on two new book projects, joined a writer's group, had stickers printed, started painting on a regular basis and my band recorded and released an album (and we've played a few shows). This is a way to support and expand that work.

What I'd like to do is paint some projects for you. I've got this weird but unique line of paintings I can't seem to stop doing. I'd like to have two or three new books published (one a book on my failed marriage that I'm in the process of writing, the second a children's book that I hope to illustrate, and the third would be the third volume of the Rock Stars on God series.

Some of my regular activities and ideas are painting tiles, plaques and posters, making t-shirts and having other images printed (photography, design and paintings), sharing my thoughts on music and the creative with regular video blogs. I'd love to do some consulting with other musicians and artists. My band (Lust Control) would like to record some new singles and release them exclusively to you way in advance of anyone else hearing them.

I'd like to create some HM Magazine private collection books, which would be collected works from the 28 years of archives at my disposal. Some annual books, some "best-of" or genre-specific collections. Some custom work chosen by you. And other ideas that strike my fancy (and hopefully yours, too).

I'd also like to launch a couple of other creative arms. One is in the area of social media. Small businesses everywhere see the need for social media (some don't, but soon will) and I've got experience, know-how, time and tools to help. A certain level of support (a custom club) would receive, for example, an average of 15 well-placed and strategic tweets and Facebook posts throughout the month to directly support their business and build a social media presence in their field of work. This could also involve graphic design projects, where I provide print-ready working files and (if need-be) connections to affordable printer options through my network and past business relationships.

Another area would be under the heading of education and consultation. I've experienced a lot and learned a little and there is nothing more rewarding than sharing that knowledge. Therefore, another custom club could be created where you would be able to ask me questions, I can share knowledge, tips, know-how and even warnings about the world of the creative - especially the music and entertainment world. It would not be artist management (which should be a full-time job), nor would it guarantee a record deal for you, but hopefully I can help, inspire and offer valid assistance and critique for your art. This might even involve editing your work or formatting your writing into a book format and helping you get print-ready files to a print-on-demand outfit (like lulu.com, who I've worked with on dozens of projects over the last few years).

Those are some of my initial ideas. My profile will be a work in progress, as will my creativity. Whoo-hoo! I'm excited. :)

Education. Professor Van Pelt teaches via video blogs on the fine art of journalism, graphic design and journalism from a biblical worldview. This includes critique of your writing, possible (but always volunteer) assignments and question/answer sessions on how to improve your writing, get published and other tidbits of info that I know that you might wonder about. Pick my brain. Now's your chance (just the brain, not my nose).
