WELCOME!My name is Dr. John Thomas, DC. In the music world I'm known as Dr. Jobasto. "Dr. Jobasto" represents my inner child at heart. My childhood was not always the greatest. I don't remember much up to 7 or 8 years old that was fun or positive as a kid's life should be. In fact, I only remember the bad and ugly of those years. It was during these very critical formative years that my mother, siblings and I were tormented by extremely physical and mental domestic violence. We all survived but at a serious price. For me it was a long arduous journey of discovering who I really was. I dealt with many years of shame, self doubt, self loathing, very low self esteem, psychological trauma, and post traumatic stress disorder. My mother was strong enough to escape after my younger brother almost lost his life from the abuse. At the age of 3 he was rushed to the hospital with 4th and 5th degree burns all over his body. He almost died at the hands of abuse! That was when me and my sister were immediately flown to New York City to live with my mother's parents. My brother survived and was flown to New York too after 3 months of recovery from the life-changing burns. We missed our mother but we were all finally safe, healing and surrounded by the immense prayers and love of my mother's family. The three of us were finally re-united and lived in NYC together until I was around 7 years old. That was when we all were flown back to LA to live with my mother and our "new dad" who we call "Poppy" to this day.
(I am in tears as I type this because of the triumphant power of God and the slow and painful type of resilience the human spirit must have to live through and after traumatic experiences. But not everyone is that fortunate to be saved from the ravages of abuse.)
My grandparents, uncles, aunt, and cousins prayed heavily for us and showed us unconditional love and support as we began our journey of physical and emotional healing. The following very personal video shows my brother Enrico & sister Angelina along with my mother Elsie and my beloved grandparents who are now deceased.
My brother underwent numerous plastic surgeries on his face and head well into his late twenties...
Creating, singing and listening to music helps me to cope with the terrible memories in my head and the pain of others who have suffered the terrible misfortunes of abuse of all types...music soothes and heals my soul! It is one of the only outlets I truly love to my core.
I have suffered from the pain of my abusive past for many years. In my teens and early adulthood I was terrified to create friendships or be in relationships because I feared the consequence of disagreement or not being received for who I was. I didn't wan to be anything like my biological father either. Please don't judge him because like all of us we all have our crosses to bear. Prayer and a deep consciousness of my behavior and the control of my emotions was of paramount importance. It was many years of prayer, counseling, unconditional love and support and the therapeutic power of music that changed my life! I took me until I was in my late 30's before I was able to pick up the phone to tell him I forgave him. I strive to help and uplift others including my own siblings every chance that I get. God has truly had his hand on me. I am truly blessed, very talented and highly educated. I have been a practicing sports chiropractor for over 25 years! This is because a community of family and friends and even strangers came together to uplift me with words of encouragement and music.
I opened my first recording studio in 1991. That was when the word JOBASTO was born. Two other people were a part of the collective. Their names were Sebastion and Tony. We formed Jobasto by using the first two letters in my first name John, "Jo", the "bas" in Sebastian and the "to" in Tony. They dropped out after the 2nd year in business and I kept it going ever since with help from a dear friend, Bryant Rayford, who was my very first official recording artist and Jobasto Music Camper! I have started, owned, operated and financed four other recording studios in my life which were always home to Jobasto Music Campers. Jobasto Music Camp has always strived to help disadvantaged or abused kids who live in underserved, socially and economically depressed communities learn the business and art of the music world. I am living proof that music moves people. It changes lives. It brings people together! So I am over-the-top passionate about uplifting others with the power of music. For the last 35 years I have been multi-genre producer, an independent recording artist and voice-over talent. I have done all kinds of cool voice-over and jingle work for Coca Cola, Glidden Paints, Texaco, Nairobi Hair Care and many other commercial accounts. My passion is teaching others how to follow their dreams in music and the arts, protect themselves from the snakes in the business, collect their royalties, start their own labels, publishing companies, recording studios, or even how to produce music. I'm still rocking the music thing in my fifties because I absolutely love it. I even inspire my son's Brandon and Levi who are also music producers and independent recording artists. They too were Jobasto Music Campers!
The reason I decided to join the Patreon family of creators is because I come from the old school way of "making it" as a struggling musician and I want to be the example for my sons and others trying to break into the business of music as a creator. I realized during my later years of running Jobasto Music Camp that making music amongst today's youth is laptop driven now. There really isn't a dire need to go into those ridiculously expensive large recording studio settings owned by multi-billion dollar record companies to drop an EP anymore. It's not even desirable to most artists to get signed to a label because most artists that become signed to record labels end up in huge amounts of debt with nothing to show for it. Indies (independent recording artists) make small amounts of money now from streams and downloads of their music, selling merchandise and touring. Of course, that's not always enough especially when it comes to the cost of trying to become a successful artist, funding the creative projects, raising a family or saving for retirement. Then there is the need to come up with the funds to pay the talented people who help with creating the music, engineers, musicians, songwriters, the visuals for the music videos, special effects, the photo shoots, cameras and lighting, hard drives, SD cards, make-up artists, actors for the videos, graphics, animation, the stylists, make-up, the wardrobe, the plug-ins for the new sounds, music equipment, venues, bands, website development and continued management, lawyers, publicity, merchandise, advertising and marketing campaigns, permits, liability insurance, computers, software, hard drives, cameras, drones, lights, locations, food, and so on. The cost to pull these things off is absolutely mind boggling!
It is YOU that makes all of this possible!
YOU Are My Million Dollar Record Label!
IT'S YOU THAT ALLOWS ME TO HELP PAY OTHERS

If I'm to continue to inspire those looking to get into this new way of doing music business I must learn from experience. Think of YOU, my collective of patrons, as my multi-million dollar record label! It's YOU that will allow me to employ other creators to help me along this journey. Making music videos and getting them out there is not cheap. Recording music isn't cheap either. It's YOU, that's making the difference! It's you that helps keep the arts thriving and alive when schools can no longer support music programs for the kids! It's you that can help someone break into the music business and learn new and exciting things about creating music and videos! IT IS YOU THAT CAN HELP MAKE IT POSSIBLE!!! I gotta tell you though that asking for your help puts me in a very vulnerable place. Sharing my heart and soul through my music puts me there too....especially revealing the behind the scenes of it all! But asking for your help also keeps me very very humble and makes me feel extremely blessed to be blessed by your generosity! So again if you are becoming our patron I have boundless gratitude for your giving spirit. And I appreciate that you get it! Please tell others and help them to “get it” too!
Please remember that it’s not just about me here. It’s also about everybody else that will be compensated for helping us create wondrous creations of love, hope, inspiration, happiness, laughter, tears, and raw emotion. Your continued support of our dreams will also go to help others attain their dreams as we continue to teach and inspire our Jobasto Music Campers to do what I have learned to do over many years of trial and error on my own meager dime. You will get to celebrate their achievements too and see the genuine smiles on their faces. So again, thank you and welcome to my world...the world of my inner child: Dr. Jobasto!

A Note About My New Single PRAY
THE PRAY MOVEMENT:
People all over the world are suffering from terrible conditions because of social injustices, poverty, political unrest, human trafficking, disease, and other monstrosities. Pray shares a positive message of hope and solidarity. This sing-along record also encourages all of us to get involved by either volunteering for an organization or donating to one that speaks to the soul.
Serving as a catalyst to social activism, Dr. Jobasto sings about taking a stand against the atrocities in our own neighborhoods, within our country and the rest of the world. Pray simply but boldly reminds us about various social issues like world terrorism, brutality by law enforcement, human trafficking, poverty, world hunger, suicide and more.
All of these societal problems take a psychological toll on us all. Yes there are soldiers out there fighting against the problems in our back yards but many of us are numb due to the infiltration and exposure to the negative side effects of the realties we choose to ignore. Media platforms try to paint the picture but It's easier to just worry about the safety and welfare of our immediate family members, not the world. Most of us feel helpless because the problems are larger than us.
Pray encourages us to take an introspective look at ourselves with hopes that we become motivated enough to stand up and do something. Imagine what we could accomplish if we all took a stand against any and all of these problems and prayed together as one heart and one mind. As a unified collective we can accomplish great things together as one. Get involved! Join or donate to an organization that speaks to your heart, mind and soul. Let’s take a stand and make a difference we can be proud of.
