Dyke Soccer is not pay to play and operates on a sliding scale. Whether you give does not impact your ability to play. All pickups are accessible to all - regardless of contribution level. For information to help you decide which tier makes sense for you, please look at this graphic: choose your tier based on which bottle you most identify with.

For $5 a month, you are helping make this project sustainable. This is the perfect tier for someone who appreciates our work from afar, benefits as a sideline cruiser or contributor to the newsletter, or identifies as someone for whom donating any amount presents a financial hardship (but wants to contribute what they can).

About DYKE SOCCER

Dyke Soccer was founded in April 2018 by Jolie Signorile and Alex Schmidt, two old friends who became lovers while creating this league. Our central mission is to make health and wellness accessible for queer womxn, trans, gender nonconforming, non binary, and questioning people. Soccer is the medium. Safe physical fitness spaces are rare for queer folks and we advocate for inclusive culture wherever we play. What began as a flirty 1v1 has grown into a community of 3k+ players and their fans, who meet weekly to play pickup in NY (Bedstuy and South Brooklyn), LA, and DC.

We aim to be MORE INCLUSIVE THAN COOL. We are built in response to a closed or homogeneous culture that accompanies many teams. Dyke Soccer is a community built around cruising, connections, and sport free from focus on substance and profit. We’re a pop-up dyke bar in your local park: sub the booze for a soccer ball. Meetups in each city are bottom-lined by different members, with captaining shifting from week to week.

While this growth has been exciting, this project is now too large to run sustainably on volunteer efforts alone. Our 2020 goal budget will cover gear, field rental, and one time costs for structuring Dyke Soccer for long term success -- but will also start paying our teammates for their labor on this project, beginning with a Part Time Director, Chapter Organizers, an Outreach Committee, and a Communications Team. A monthly contribution helps us pay these positions regularly. For all paid leadership/work opportunities, we will prioritize hiring trans/gnc/nb people and people of color. All of the paid opportunities will be open to all, regardless of whether you contribute or not.

As we create space and resources for our community we recognize that we are situated within broader social contexts of inequality and injustice and we can share effort and resources toward counteracting these.

Sponsor yourself or another player. Generally, the cost per pick up is $10/person. Dyke Soccer operates on a sliding scale: for information to help you decide which tier makes sense for you, please look at "The Green Bottle: Where You Fall on the Sliding Scale." Choose your tier based on which bottle you most identify with:

Full bottle: Choose the tier that accurately expresses your attendance. Ideally, choose a tier that expresses more than your attendance, understanding that this will cover the cost of those who cannot contribute.
Half-full bottle: Choose the tier that you can afford if it accurately expresses your attendance. Or, choose a tier that is slightly less than your actual attendance.
Emptiest bottle: Feel comfortable in knowing that our community is supporting your play!

*Please note: the amount that you give does not impact what you are able to receive. All pickups are accessible to all regardless of contribution level.

If you would like to contribute to the volunteer workload that keeps Dyke Soccer running, please email [email protected]

Through petitioning and in-person discussions, Dyke Soccer helped organized the YMCA in Bedstuy to put up trans and genderqueer inclusive bathroom signs. Dyke Soccer has raised and donated over $2000 to local LGBTQ, prison abolitionist, and migrant relief organizations such as Black + Pink NYC and Annunciation House.  Dyke Soccer has been featured in DAZED, Office Magazine, and Elite Daily.
