What?

In each of the ten episodes of Season 1 of Edges, a different queer and/or trans person tells a true story about love--broadly defined--that changed their life.

Who?

The first season covers the stories of nine different individuals, and I've done my best to represent as wide a range as possible of gender, sexuality, age, and background. That being said, especially where I am aiming to be as intersectional as possible, there are countless identities (and mixes of identities) that I have left out in this series! That's one of the reasons I could use your support: to enable me to continue with this project so I can talk to an even broader range of people.

Why?

If you know me From Online, you probably know me as the co-creator of The Penumbra Podcast, where I produce, direct, and sound design audio dramas that are primarily designed to be excellent genre fiction but which also happen to focus heavily on LGBTQ characters. Over the past few years, that show has grown in a way that I never could have anticipated and has become my full-time career, but as much as I love creating fiction that centers marginalized people, it also by nature has certain limitations in term of representation.

I wanted to try my hand at non-fiction, and I also wanted to use my existing platform (which is not by any means huge but is nonetheless of value!) to amplify the voices of those who often go unheard. So this is a natural follow-up to The Penumbra: it explores the way a diversity of people live and love each other and grapple with hard things. I also very much hope that it will help listeners to feel like they are not alone.

When?

I'll be releasing episodes bi-weekly for one limited-run season. If the show turns out to be able to support itself, I will create a second season in the future!

How?

For this initial season, I've kept things very simple--apart from commissioning music and a logo, my only real expenses are the ongoing web hosting to keep the podcast feed online and compensation for my own work. That said, I am a full-time podcaster, and thus I can't afford to create any more of the show or continue hosting it online unless I can make a reasonable amount of money from it! So if you think this is a valuable project and would like to see it grow, that's where you come in. Creating the first season has been a gamble for me as far as the initial expenses and time, but if it turns out to be financially feasible, then I hope to continue it in the future.

Where?

Honestly I only included this heading because it felt SO WEIRD to skip it, but....nowhere. Online? Online!

Tiers
Thank you!
$2 or more per month

Every dollar you pledge makes a difference to me and the show, so $2 makes TWO huge differences! I want to show my gratitude by thanking you in the show notes of each episode.

Early access!
$4 or more per month

Can't wait for the next episode? I got you! At this level, you'll receive episodes three days early, in addition to a thank-you in the show notes.

Bonus material for each episode!
$7 or more per month

In order to streamline these interviews into bite-sized narratives, I did a lot of editing, but that means I cut out a lot of fascinating conversations about gender, sexuality, and my guests' experiences. At this level, you'll have access to the best of those conversations in addition to receiving the episodes three days early and getting a thank-you in the show notes.

Thank you again, but out loud!
$10 or more per month

$10 goes a long way with this production, and I want to thank you personally! At this level, you'll hear me read your name in the closing credits of the show in tones of the deepest gratitude and adoration. You'll also receive bonus material for each episode, have access to the episodes three days early, and still get a thank-you in the show notes.

Goals
$133 of $260 per month
I've kept my expenses as minimal as possible on this show, and this goal would enable me to cover my initial costs. Those costs include:

1) Commissioning artists to create the original logo and theme music;
2) Podcast hosting for two years; and
3) My own time. I've been working on producing this show for the past year in addition to my other podcast, and because podcasting is the way I earn a living, I can't afford to do it at a loss or even for free. Hitting this goal would be incredibly meaningful for me, and it would also mean I'd be paid for my work!
