elemental habit (is James-Olivia Chu Hillman... and you)

I use wool, water, wood, fire, metal, and air to create exquisite, small batch, hand-dyed & hand-spun yarns and slow, hand-crafted garments. Each step of the process, from fiber selection and preparation, to spinning, dyeing, drying, winding, designing, knitting, felting, and sharing is an evolving relationship of learning, respect, care, and pleasure. I delight in crafting an extraordinary experience—for myself and for us. Thank you for sharing this profound joy and conversation with me.

Speaking of conversation, that's what I'm really here for. You can get yarn anywhere. (Not this yarn, but very beautiful stuff.) So let's talk. Really talk. I'd love to share yarn with you, and more than that, I'd love to share conversation about what truly matters. We'll use wool as the way in, because every garment is a story—of growth, connection, transformation, creation, relationship—but once you've entered this magical wardrobe, we can take the conversation anywhere we want to.
I want us to be part of each other's story.
What will we create together?
...
Ongoing patronage is just one way to support elemental habit. There are other ways to be in community with me and to contribute to the sustainability of this passion. Choose an action that works for you in this moment:
  • Send me a note. Kind words and encouragement are energetic gifts that are always appreciated.
  • Follow or friend me on Facebook.
  • Treat me to a cup of coffee.
  • Join me for a 1:1 conversation in my exploration of Right Relationship in 100 Conversations.
  • Invite yourself to an Inquisitive Human Salon conversation sometime.
  • Follow elemental habit on Instagram. While you're at it, follow other knitters, dyers, and makers of color. Representation matters.
  • Share this Patreon page or your favorite Instagram post with someone you know who would enjoy it. Your joy has impact, and even a small spark of enthusiasm can ripple out and become a big deal for boutique makers and creatives.
  • Give a gift card from WooleryParadise FibersDharma Trading Co., or Knit Picks.
  • Most importantly, keep getting free. Build community and create loving relationships with people who are unlike you. Listen to, believe, and support Black and Indigenous women, queer, trans, fat, disabled, poor, immigrant, young, old, uneducated folx or anyone else you've been raised to believe doesn't deserve consistent and abundant care and dignity. Gorgeous yarn and handcrafted goods are nice, but a truly beautiful world is one where we are liberated and authentically connected. We're in this together.
