About J. A. Micheline

Hiya.

I'm J. A. Micheline, or JAM, and I'm a writer and critic who often writes about comics, particularly from a race and gender perspective. Unfortunately, my financial situation is that I have a lot of difficulty writing about things I'm passionate about when I can't be paid to do so. A critic-on-criticism column is the kind of inside baseball that is hard to place at a publication (for now, anyway), so I've started this Patreon specifically to make this passion project financially viable.  Patrons are encouraged to pay whatever they think my material is worth, even if it's just a dollar.

Critical Jam will cover a variety of topics on criticism--its purpose, how it is or can be used, the (hidden) value of 10/10 reviews, the responsibility required in handling marginalized critique, and so on.

I don't believe in paywalls, so as it stands there is no Patron-exclusive material.  A new column will appear on my Tumblr in the first week of every month. However, Patrons will have first priority for topic requests and questions. They will be updated here as soon as a new post goes up.

Thanks and welcome to the team!
