Hello and welcome! My name is Elisabeth.

I'm a freelance illustrator living in Western Massachusetts and I'm looking forward to exploring this platform to allow others to dive a little deeper into my creative world. My artwork focuses on fantastical, historical, and cartographic imagery. I'm constantly inspired by my travels and my lifelong appreciation of fantasy and historical literature and film, especially those created for children. In my work, I strive to recreate the joy I have always felt poring over books with lush, narrative illustration, and hope that I might spark that joy in someone else. My paintings are typically created with a variety of media: pencil, watercolor, colored pencil, acryla gouache, and ink. Sometimes I work digitally. I've worked with some great clients over the years including Scholastic, Llewellyn Worldwide, Small Beer Press, and Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, but client jobs often don't let me delve into the subject matter that my personal work does, namely beautiful, mysterious, and enchanting imagery.  For a taste of what you'll be seeing from me, if you become a patron, check out my portfolio at www.albaillustration.com!

Current Projects:

I'm jumping between a few things. Client-wise, I am working on the Everyday Witch Oracle deck, which is due early 2019. This is a companion deck to the Everyday Witch Tarot deck that I illustrated, written by Deborah Blake and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. Since there are 40 images in the deck, you'll be seeing a lot of magical imagery from it over the next year. Other client jobs might come along as well, and if I am able to share sketches and process for them I will. For personal work, I'm currently working on some small paintings in preparation for my next convention of the year, Illuxcon. I am a member of the Changeling Artist Collective and we have monthly themed auctions of art that I try to make time to create for. Coming soon, in October I will be participating in Month of Fear, one of my favorite art months of the year!

Why Patreon?:

I share snippets here and there on social media, but as everyone now knows, reach has gone way down from wonky algorithms. There are also limitations to the length and quality of uploaded video on facebook and instagram. I would love to share more in-depth posts about works in progress, my process, longer videos, and spend more time providing better content about my work for those who are truly interested.

My goal is to have supplemental income for more financial stability (publishing is often unpredictable!) and to free up more time for personal work and exploration, as well as more time to create better behind-the-scenes content for my patrons.

How it works:

You may select whichever reward tier you are comfortable contributing to. At the moment I only have three tiers: the Doodler for $1, the Sketcher for $2, and the Painter for $5. My Patreon uses "Charge Up Front" which means new Patrons will be charged on the day they pledge, and later payments are collected at the start of each month. You can edit your pledge to suit your budget whenever you want, and you may also cancel your pledge at any time! Check out the official Patreon FAQ which may answer some specific questions about the platform.

What do you get?:

I'm keeping this simple for now as I explore the platform and figure it all out. I plan on making patron-exclusive posts multiple times a week about current projects on the table and first looks at new art. Both the Sketcher and Painter tiers will also see sketch-to-final process posts and other tidbits about my artwork past and present, will be able to participate in polls, receive a holiday card in December (with an image you can watch me create!) and a multi-use coupon code for 10% off in my Etsy. Supporters of the Painter tier will also receive desktop wallpapers upon pledging, a monthly coloring book page, video access, and a print of the holiday card image in December along with their card!

Eventually I would like to offer original art tiers if your support allows me to free up some time to work on those. Other ideas I might offer in the future are more involved videos about my studio and art life, a monthly Q&A (once I have enough patrons to get enough questions), guest posts from my husband (artist Scott Murphy, if anyone would be interested!)... I may change, add, or remove tier rewards as my patreon grows, depending on what is working and what is not working. It's all a work in progress; who knows where it will lead! :)
