Elizabeth Rossanois creating videos about humans trying to do life on earth the right way.
I'll share with you whatever I can provide that will help you access the same amount of education that I'm receiving from these amazing people. This could be:
- Bonus interview transcripts or quotes when available
- Helpful links to learn more
- Live Q&A chats with me once a month if requested by anybody
- EARLY ACCESS: Name listed in credits of the videos you produce until I have too many names to fit (could be a while 😊)
You're a Learner but also you get:
- Occasional bonus clips - anything I like that doesn't make it into the videos or social media posts
- Name listed in credits of each video that has a credit reel
- EARLY ACCESS: Shout out at the end of the first episode you produce
Thank you so much! You're really making a big commitment to helping me do this thing. I'm going to think of what other benefits I can provide. In the meantime...
You're a Learner, in the Fan Club, and also:
- EARLY ACCESS: Shout out at the end of every episode you produce until I have too many names to say (if that ever happens 😊)
- You have my deepest gratitude!
About Elizabeth Rossano
HOW DO WE HUMAN?That is the title of my serial web documentary. It's about this chaotic moment in human history where many of us, or at least some of us, are choosing not to put blinders on but instead investigate how to adapt so that, to put it bluntly, our species won't destroy the life-sustaining climate of our planet and ourselves in the process.
The show follows the activities of people who have varying ways of answering the question of what's the best way to be a human, all expressed through their craft, their mission, their heart, or their relationship with the land. This could be about homesteading and food—immediate relationships with the land, but also it can be about states of mind that are a part of this relationship—how we think of ourselves as residents of our home planet.
The show will have twelve episodes in a year, hopefully released monthly (there is a back log right now while I launch this). Each episode is about the month they were filmed in. The episodes will be broken down into "acts" where you get a piece of someone's story. The subjects will be visited throughout the year, making this what I think of as a "live documentary". The stories are unfolding as I'm bringing them to you.
Why I'm Doing This12,000 years ago humans invented agriculture. This change in our relationship with the land led to everything we know now. The strange thing about the last century or so is that it's now possible for humans to live without even being aware of their relationship with the land. The reality is, despite the break-neck pace of developing technology and the widening psychological (and physical) distance between us and the land, we are still 100% dependent on it, and that's not likely to change. At least, we can't depend on it.
Concurrently, humans have become a problem for our land, our planet. The population is expected to level out by the end of this century around 12 billion, but can we make it til then? How are we going to be us and make it past the bottleneck of extinction? I don't think any one person knows how to answer that, but I'm interested in the people who have dedicated their lives to at least trying.
My mission is to positively influence human culture to come back to the land and back to our heart, enabling all living things to thrive now and into the future.
What Your Patronage MeansIf you decide to become a patron, you are helping lift this video series to its full potential. The more time I can spend, the more I can stay in the creative headspace needed to make it great, and also the more time I can spend keeping the production value high. Higher production value means it looks nice, sounds nice, and is easy to consume. Not only are you helping me to make these videos, but you are helping me further the mission behind them.
As For Me...I'm an independent filmmaker in Vermont, USA, and this is the single most ambitious project I've ever attempted. I don't remember when I knew I wanted to be a filmmaker, but when I look back on it, I think my destiny was written for me since childhood. But it wasn't until I was 31 at the end of 2016 that I finally asked myself that question, "If not now, when?" I didn't know what I was going to do when I quit my job in public access television, but that's the moment when I decided there is no other path than the path that's in one's heart. It's the scary one, but nothing else is worth the precious time we have in our current waking life.
An image that always comes to mind when I think of my path is "slicing through the bullshit". That's what I always say to myself. I picture myself karate chopping through each veil of illusion as it appears to me. I think all of us are shrouded in many veils of illusion that our society creates, particularly in American culture (the only one I can really speak to). We feel isolated and empty, fooled by the false promises of happiness from consumerism and individualism. I don't know where my courage comes from, but I'm sure it has to do with certain privileges that I was born with combined with trauma I've suffered that busted open the first veil of illusion.
My hope is that any clarity I find as a result of my own god-granted power can be shared with anyone who I come into contact with. Some people are way ahead of me, and I thank them for showing me the way too.
All we have is now.
