The calling-on song...
I sing songs. Some traditional folk songs from the British Isles. Some covers. Some that I've written with my partner, lyricist and graphic artist, Sam Kelly.
The five-verse ballad...
I've been making music since I was small, and fell head-over-heels in love with folk music when I was not much older. I've been a jazz bassist and a classical soprano and a choral composer. Now I'm a folk mezzo, and a ukulele player, and I tend to look longingly at low D whistles and lap harps...
I've been singing folk in a semi-serious fashion since I was in my mid-twenties, but being chronically ill since before I reached adulthood, doing much about it has been somewhat tricky. Now in my mid-thirties, with my life having taken a new and beautiful turn, and living in a new city with my wonderful partner, it's time to draw all those threads together.
My plan for the next few months is to build up my repertoire, write more songs, and get along to folk clubs when health permits. And get some recording done, which is where you come in. :-)
I aim to write more songs, and record a mixture of traditional and self-penned material, with the aim of releasing at least one EP and one album this year, plus additional singles as and when. I'll also be posting photos, artwork and general updates on here, and shall be open to suggestions for other things to write about!

Money from Patrons will help me to eat and pay the rent, always useful for a budding musician. ;-) Looking ahead, it will mean better recording equipment, the possibility of professional studio use every so often, and the purchase of a lap harp to use for accompanying myself, playing instrumental music, and accompanying other singers and storytellers.
In addition to downloads of the tracks, I'll be offering patrons lyrics and sheet music of some of the songs. For the especially generous, there'll be gorgeous artwork by my partner Sam Kelly of Eithin Arts.
And remember: you can always set a limit per month on how much to give, so if I have a super-productive month you're guaranteed not to have to pay me more than you can afford. :-)
