About

A native Texan, I head the blog  EmilyHasBooks, writing on a variety of issues related to atheism, humanism, and skepticism. I may actually consume more coffee than books.

Like many of you,  I'm a strong supporter of the freedom of speech, expression, and information; I feel that one of our most valuable tools is the free movement of information and ideas.

Why are you on Patreon?

Since coming out as an atheist in late 2011, I've been writing about issues related to atheism, humanism, politics, and skepticism on my website EmilyHasBooks. It's been an incredible experience, and because of it, I have had the opportunity to provide a launch pad for fellow atheist writers,  Dan Arel and Bridget Gaudette, cover pertinent issues, and reach a substantially large audience.

My dedication could only take me so far, success has come through your readership and support. You have made writing an enriching experience, and it is my desire to keep creating content that you value. It's through Patreon that you will have an opportunity to support me in this endeavor, and to also cultivate new writers, cover more events, and keep food in my fridge.

Well, what would you like to do now?

As I continue writing, I would like to have regular guest contributions from persons with specializations in fields I'm not skilled in – scientists, magicians, and theologians. As part of launching Patreon, I have started making video versions of my blog posts. In addition to expanding the blog in this way, I would like to publish two books. The first will comprise several blog posts and stories about my experiences in atheism over the years; the second will be a collection of young adult short stories that focus on challenges faced in life, giving lessons in atheism, humanism, and skepticism.

How does this work?

Patreon is a new initiative that tries to solve problems both artist and fans face. For artists, it’s the need to stay afloat while doing what they love, and for fans, it’s a way to support and engage with your favorite content creators. Through my Patreon you can pledge an amount to give every time I publish a new original post to EmilyHasBooks. In return, I'll offer you rewards. You can choose your reward after clicking the “Become a Patron” button. You can also opt out of the reward, giving me more time to focus on writing and making videos.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Yes! It must be stressed that every post on EmilyHasBooks will remain available for free. Your financial support will work to advance the blog, and my writing, to something greater. You will be giving an amount of your choice per blog post written by me, not contributors – no matter how awesome they are. I am going to focus on posting two times per month, and when more goals are met, I would like to create weekly content – this update will be announced. The way Patreon works, you will have an opportunity every month to fine tune your pledge.

What if I still have questions?

You are welcome to email me through Patreon or directly at  [email protected], I answer all emails personally ... and remember, my surname rhymes with beetle.
