Emily Kate Boyd has a bunch of new songs and she needs patrons to make them ready for the world to hear.

These are the 4 things you need to know:
  1. This is not a fundraiser for a record. This is more like a song subscription–an ongoing patronage to support one artist's effort to write, record and publish songs.
  2. Expect to average one song per month. No more, ever.
  3. This project might not work. Publishing music is difficult. Not every studio session produces a final song. Does anyone remember "Dead Sirens". Yeh. *sizzle sounds*
  4. This project might change the world. When songs work, they connect people to ideas and imagery that transforms the way people see themselves and the world they live in. For some, change is a good thing. For many, it's a ruckus.

My name is Emily Kate Boyd. I grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I've been making recorded music since 1996. Though I have no super-sized commercial success story to tell (yet), I have the blessing of continuous support from a growing tribe of true fans who keep my music alive.  Patrons, people who believe in my art, big-hearted people who enabled me to make music professionally have been there for me from the very beginning.

Simply put, I write deep, heartfelt songs. Even when I'm writing fun songs like "Kitchen Conversation" where "auntie's toy piano is blowing bubbles, raising hell", I inevitably land in a deeper insights of "love is an art, not a right or wrong answer". My work is layered and lyrical. My songs are personal and interpersonal, and I am not afraid to comment on the cultural forces that drive me. And I'm a nerd.

Please consider this when you pledge: your account will be charged every time I am ready to publish a song to digital distributors like Spotify or iTunes. If you're concerned about going over your budget, there's an easy way to set a monthly maximum for yourself when you're entering your payment info.

My songs are written by me and my income from my songs will come in three ways. First and most importantly: through Patreon pledges. Second, via Google Adsense on my YouTube videos. This will be a relatively small number per month. Third, I intend to generate income from sponsorships. I will negotiate these the same way every time: choose a product or service that inspires me, and make clear that the brand in question can have no editorial influence whatsoever on the content of my songs. Sponsorships will appear on end screens a few seconds after each music video is completed. This patronage plan was inspired by Nerdwriter, my favorite Patreon artist, and whose work greatly inspires this page.

The goal here is not to create some great commercial success, though it is a possibility and certainly would be a welcome outcome of the work. The goal is to discover how songs can be used as agents of empathy, not simply units of entertainment. The mission is to create a more compassionate and inclusive world by making songs that connect one heart at a time, one song at a time. This is the work that matters to me the most.

Thank you for joining me in this song adventure. Thank you for helping me make art that matters.
