Empathize This is a place where people can tell their own stories about prejudice and hardship, and how these experiences affect their lives. The author supplies their story, and we create a short comic to accompany it.

All of the content on EmpathizeThis is always going to be free to read, and we will never charge people for submitting a story and creating a comic through us. It’s important for us to keep it that way.

We refuse to run ads

Why?

We can’t really control ads, and we need to make sure we create a safe space. Imagine a scenario where we have a story pointing out problems with the way poor people, or women, or black people are portrayed in the media. What if there’s an ad that does exactly that at the top of our website? That would be horrible.

Or how about a story about PTSD at the movies (we have a story like this), with a movie ad for something extremely violent?

There are too many possibilities of ads going wrong on our site. This is the reason why we had to make the decision to never incorporate ads.

So instead, we’re coming to our readers directly for help. If you think what we do is valuable, and you’d like to see more of it, please consider becoming a patron.

What your patronage will allow us to do:
Right now the site is run at a loss, and it's maintained by chipping in our own time and money. Fortunately we all have day jobs, but obviously this isn’t sustainable in the long term. There will come a time when we can no longer afford to keep the website up and running. Your patronage will ensure that we can keep sharing stories that matter - and at the very least, keep old stories available to read for others.

Milestone Goals
Once we reach the minimum amount to keep the website running, we’ll be able to do neat things such as publish comics in color, an ebook edition, and more frequent updates!

How often will I be charged?
We update the site every other Monday, and you’ll be charged at the end of the month. You can set a cap on how much you’re willing to spend, so you won’t go over your set amount no matter what. You can also cancel at any time before you’re charged.

Rewards
We aren’t going to spend too much time on rewards, because our focus should always be on the story and the contributor. But rewards are awesome, so we have a few perks for those helping us out!

You’ll have our gratitude, and the gratitude of all the people who have a story to share. Without you we really wouldn’t be able to share the stories that matter. Thank you! You’ll get access to the Patreon activity stream, where we post early updates and sketches.
Goals
$29 of $200 per comic
This is the amount we need to continue publishing comics regularly!
