Eric Avery is creating fantasy novels and stories

Who is this guy?
My name is Eric Avery, and I've been a writer for my entire life. I wrote short stories while the other kids were outside playing baseball and road hockey. I've written for commercial game and interactive fiction. I'm finally branching off to make my personal projects available for public consumption, instead of sitting in my apartment living in fear that my work will never be good enough to read. (Yes, it's a real thing we writers do too often.)

What am I doing?
Why, writing books, of course! I have cemented my first novel "The Path of Mages" in young-adult fantasy (just imagine that J.K. Rowling and Mercedes Lackey had a baby) that features themes of home, coming-of-age, and confidence. It also just happens to feature moments of magical insanity and body-swapping villains.

What makes me different?

I offer you a challenge: can you name a character from a mainstream fantasy franchise who is LGBT? Lord of the Rings? Nope. Harry Potter? Not in the books themselves. Marvel Cinematic Universe? Maybe there's "no audience" for that.

I'm a writer (who happens to be gay) who strongly believes in authentic, diverse races, sexualities and genders being present in mainstream fantasy. And for most of my life reading fantasy fiction, I never saw these characters represented--characters like me. So I write LGBT-positive stories not just to normalize the playing field, but also because I know there are a ton of kids and teens out there who want to see themselves represented in fantastical worlds just like I did (and still do). Sadly, the market for LGBT characters hasn't changed all that much since I was a kid.

How can I help?
Read the free chapters and stories. If you like them and want to read more, please consider becoming a patron! All the money I make goes directly back into making new content. Being a patron also gets you behind-the-scenes goodies about the writing process, and provides you with a forum to give feedback and criticism on the novels themselves (it's a bigger deal than you might realize). Thank you for reading! :D

Fantasy Lover

You love fantasy, you probably adore pictures of cats. You enjoy the content that I'm writing and want to support the novel. Thank you so much for your support!

You'll be charged $1 for each chapter of the novel that I post!

Fantasy Lover +
$1 or more per creation
You love many types of fantasy stories. I love to dabble in dark fantasy, fantasy realism, surrealism, and modern fantasy, and try out different voices and styles.

You'll be charged $1 for each chapter of the current novel, and $1 for each short story.

Fantasy Lover ++
$1 or more per creation
You love the nitty-gritty of how a book is made, the writing process, and all the extra stuff that authors only tell you about years later in interviews that should have been included in the novels but mysteriously weren't (I'm looking at you, J.K. Rowling).

Access to all content I write, including chapters, short stories, lore posts, removed content, and blogs!

Fantasy Fanatic
$2 or more per creation
Perhaps you love everything about the writing, or perhaps you just want a more personal relationship with me as I make this insane journey. Either way, you get access to some seriously special content.

Access to absolutely all content! You'll also gain access to video diaries, audio files of the chapters, a digital (.PDF) copy of the completed novel. Finally, you earn a special place in the "Thank You" section of the completed novel to show my undying gratitude for all your support!

Fantasy Adept
$10 or more per creation
You're a hero in your own mind and love this stuff so much that you think about it almost as much as I do. No, seriously, I'm insanely thankful and happy for your support!

Access to:

- Video blogs about my writing process and writing strategies

- Monthly polls for video content

- A digital copy (.PDF) of the completed novel

- A special thank you in the completed novel
