I love being a film critic! It combines my three passions: movies, writing, and telling people what they did wrong.

But the movie-reviewing biz has changed dramatically since I started, back in the last century. Most newspapers (to the extent that they exist at all) don't have full-time critics anymore. There's no shortage of websites that run movie reviews, but there is a shortage of websites that will pay people to write them, and a surplus of people vying for those slots.

So I've arrived at this new strategy: writing movie reviews for free at EricDSnider.com and hoping that readers will become patrons.

It's simple: pledge $1 a month. You can pledge more (thanks!), but a dollar is plenty. Patreon charges your PayPal account or credit card on the 1st of each month. If it's a buck, you probably won't even notice.

WHAT DOES YOUR PLEDGE GET YOU?

- Reviews of new movies, usually on opening weekend. I write them using only the finest, freshest words in the English language. All punctuation marks are locally sourced.

In 2018, I'm promising a review (at least 200 words) of every new film I see. Most years there are a few dozen that I see but don't write up (37 in 2017.) This year everything gets at least a capsule review.

- Access to the vast Eric D. Snider archives, containing more than 3,700 movie reviews. Did you know there even were that many movies? There are!

- The peaceful assurance that comes from knowing that I am out there watching movies, often so you don't have to.

Thank you for your support! I hope you find my reviews as useful, entertaining, and worthy of $1 a month as I intend them to be.

Sincerely,
Eric D. Snider

If you pledge at least $1 a month, you get my gratitude. Plus all those reviews! (But you get the reviews even if you don't pledge anything.)
Pledge $5 or more per month

If you pledge at least $5 per month, you get to BOSS ME AROUND. Specifically, you're entitled to demand (politely) that I review something specific -- anything released in theaters or Video on Demand within the previous 365 days that I haven't already reviewed.
Pledge $10 or more per month

For $10 a month, you get the $5 reward, plus Eric's Personalized Movie Recommendation Service. This service is my phone number. You can use it to text me questions like: "I know you haven't posted a review, but have you seen Such-and-Such, and if so, how is it?" "Is A Particular Movie suitable for my children, ages whatever and whatever?" "Our options for tonight are These Three Movies; which one should we choose?" Usually only friends and family get this service, so you're lucky, $10 pledgers! (P.S. Text me. Don't ever call me. This applies to friends and family, too.)
Goals
$498 of $1,000 per month
If we make it to $1,000 a month, I'll bring back Eric's Bad Movies on a biweekly basis. This was a snarky column I used to write for Film.com, where I'd watch a bad movie and make fun of it. Pretty self-explanatory, really. Anyway, I've been itching to revive it, and once we're at $1,000, it shall be so.
