Welcome to the family and thank you for the support!

If you're an escape room owner, this tier provides a way to make your games more visible on Escape The Review: supporters at this tier may upload an advert on the site. The advert will be linked to a specific location and displayed to users viewing pages relevant to that location. All benefits of previous tiers are also included, for those who don't need an ad but wish to support the site at a higher level.

Contact EtR directly for information about expected ad impressions and further details of how ads are served. I reserve the right to disallow adverts at my discretion, for example images with objectionable content or that refer to other companies inappropriately.

About Escape The Review

Escape The Review is for, and by, all the people who love escape rooms and puzzle games. It exists to help players find extraordinary experiences, and to help the creators of those experiences get the attention they deserve. The more that success depends on creating wonderful experiences rather than the size of a company's marketing budget, the brighter the future of this amazing hobby will be.

By supporting EtR on Patreon you're making it possible for the site to continue and to grow. And while I'm deeply grateful for every supporter, I also strongly believe that supporting the site shouldn't rely on goodness of heart - I'll be working hard to make sure that supporters get clear benefits in terms of game discounts, inside information and membership of a close-knit community of like-minded enthusiasts.

Who are you?
EtR is run by me (Toby). I discovered escape rooms with Hint Hunt's John Monroe room back in 2013, and loved it so much that I promptly [waited the better part of a year and then] booked a holiday to Budapest, where I'd heard there were dozens more of these things to play. We ended up playing seven games in the space of a weekend, which at the time seemed wildly decadent.

I started EtR as my personal review blog back in 2016, having played about 60 games and therefore considering myself an Extremely Experienced Player. It did lead to a rapid and dramatic escalation in the rate at which I was playing them though, particularly once my girlfriend Priscilla decided that actually she quite enjoyed these things and was up for planning our holidays around them.

Once I got a little more humble about my experience and escaping abilities, I increasingly felt that I wanted the website to present more than just my own thoughts on the rooms. So I built it into a directory of all UK escape rooms and added a way for anyone to add their own reviews, as well as links to other bloggers' reviews. The UK has a fantastic escape room blogger community and one of the early goals was to make it easier to find which rooms had been reviewed by which blogs, including the less high profile ones.

These days Escape The Review has listings for around 6,000 open escape rooms, going well beyond just the UK, plus a couple thousand more for play at home ones, not to mention a couple thousand rooms that are now closed - over 10,000 in total. Thanks to the many enthusiasts who contribute to the site, the majority of game listings have at least one rating or review, and with better known games there's pretty much always a big selection of reviews and comments to look at.

The value of a site like this comes from its users. It also takes a lot of time and money to keep it running well, and while I happily pour both into it, the hope is that this Patreon will make it more sustainable long-term. I also hope that it'll provide a way to provide more information about future plans to those who use it most, in a way that helps guide the on-going work on it to make it as useful as possible. Cheers guys - thank for reading. 🙂
