Kedves Támogatónk, Olvasónk, Barátunk!

Mint azt sokan tudjátok, az Eszmélet folyóirat Magyarország egyetlen rendszerkritikai elméleti-tudományos kiadványa, mely 1989-es első megjelenése óta szemben áll a globális tőkerendszerrel, annak extrém egyenlőtlenségeivel, természet- és emberromboló, hierarchikus jellegével és az állami elnyomással.
Folyóiratunk természetesen nem maradt közömbös hazánk jelenkori közállapotaival szemben sem: következetesen elutasítjuk a 2010-ben hatalomra jutott autoriter, antidemokratikus, mélyen emberellenes, a fajgyűlöletet gátlástalanul használó, a társadalom igazságtalanságát tovább fokozó Orbán-rezsimet. Az Eszmélet küldetésének tartja, hogy ezen ellentmondásos jelenségeket tudományos igényességgel, magas elméleti szinten elemezze, fenntartva egyúttal humanista baloldali elkötelezettségét.
A lap - miközben önkéntes munkában készül - évek óta semmiféle állami támogatásban nem részesül, pályázati lehetőségei egyre szűkülnek, így félő, hogy előbb-utóbb feléli tartalékait, s megjelenése lehetetlenné válik.
Ezért kérjük támogatóinkat, olvasóinkat - akiknek fontos, hogy a humanista társadalmi baloldal e fóruma továbbra is fennmaradhasson -, ha tehetik, járuljanak hozzá akár csak egy jelképes összeggel a lap további működéséhez. Minden adományt köszönettel fogadunk, s azokat teljes egészében az Eszmélet folyóirat megjelenési költségeire fordítjuk.

A támogatás egyben elektronikus előfizetést is jelent: Patreon támogatóink számára az új számokat PDF formátumban megjelenéskor elérhetővé tesszük.

Dear Comrades,

As many of you know Hungary, has undergone a right-wing authoritarian turn since the elections of 2010. Prime minister Viktor Orbán and his FIDESZ party have built a régime that, on the one hand, severely limits the scope of democratic politics and pursues harshly anti-welfare policies, while, on the other hand, uses racism and xenophobia on a daily basis to create a state of hysteria to perpetuate its rule. One of the key measures of this system has been the gradual suffocation of press pluralism by state-supported buy-outs and other manœuvres, with government-friendly oligarchs gaining control of much of the media landscape, leaving very little space for critical voices. Besides media control, independent intellectual and cultural institutions and forums have also seen their funding cut, in some cases were closed down or their personnel replaced by government loyalists.

One of the few forums that survive to this day is our journal Eszmélet: published since 1989, it is the only published platform for Marxian, anti-capitalist theory and critique in the country. Working in the tradition of Georg Lukács and István Mészáros we have made it our mission to provide scholarly analysis of the contradictions of global capitalism and its different regional versions, while maintaining the perspective of a socialist alternative. Our journal is entirely produced on a voluntary basis, and unsurprisingly we receive no government support, while grants from foundations etc. have also become scarce or non-existent. Although we try hard to intensify our public outreach through events and social media, we are now faced with the prospect of becoming unable to publish the journal within some years if present trends continue, as many of our readers could not support a steep rise in price.

While we realize that Eszmélet, since published in Hungarian, is most directly relevant to our Hungarian-speaking readers, we also ask our comrades in other countries for help.

Alternatively, one-time transfers can be carried out through Paypal at this address or to our bank account below*. All receipts will be spent on publishing the four yearly issues of our journal.
