Due to the tech companies receiving the majority of profits and revenue for musical creations shared on the internet, artists and musicians such as myself have to rely on “gifts and donations of good will” to survive.I have spoken to a senior level agent at Revenue Canada to confirm this information regarding artists receiving donations and gifts of good will.When a work or service is rendered for the expectation of profit, it is considered work income.If it is a gift given with no expectation of work or service, it is not considered work income. I am using Patreon simply as a relay for donation/gift funds.
