Hi there,

In order for me to accept gifts in a way that the government of Canada will not tax as a form of work income, the following statements need to be confirmed by you as true and understood before giving me funds through patreon:

  • 1) I, Ewan Dobson, did not perform a work or service for the money
received. It is a donation of good will or gift for the purposes of supporting
and furthering my musical career and well-being.
  • 2) Note: I am not a charitable organization, so in giving this money, you
acknowledge it is a donation of good will or gift to an individual. I
have made it clear on my website that I am not trying to masquerade as a
    charitable organization.
  • 3) In giving this money to me, you understand you are not purchasing a work or service from me and are not expecting me to be obligated to you for a work or service. The purpose of you giving this money is a gift to help my survival and well-being.

Due to the tech companies receiving the majority of profits and revenue for musical creations shared on the internet, artists and musicians such as myself have to rely on “gifts and donations of good will” to survive.I have spoken to a senior level agent at Revenue Canada to confirm this information regarding artists receiving donations and gifts of good will. When a work or service is rendered for the expectation of profit, it is considered work income. If it is a gift given with no expectation of work or service, it is not considered work income.  I am using Patreon simply as a relay for donation/gift funds.

Thanks for your support,
