About The Fat Doctor

"To begin with, the Fat Doctor was writing a weight loss blog."

Yup, you heard me right. I was neck deep in diet culture and it took a pandemic and a bout of severe depression to finally pull me under.

And then the strangest thing happened. I cried out for help and some amazing people answered. They showed me that diets don't work, that BMI is bullshit and that dropping out of diet culture would change my life forever.

So I did. And then I learned about weight stigma, and how much damage it was causing in the medical setting. And I just KNEW that I had to do something about it.

I am a doctor. I am also a fat person. And whilst it took almost 20 years to reconcile the two, I am now on a mission to #endbodyfascism.

I started a podcast. I love to write too. But my favourite thing is to interact with people. So you'll see a bit of all of these when you become a patron. I'm fiercely political but I'm also human and fallible, and I'm not afraid to be honest and vulnerable with people.

I dream of a world where fat folk are treated equally to thin folk. Be honest, is that too much to ask? Sometimes it feels like it is, but it really shouldn't be. I'm not foolish enough to think I can change the world but I am determined to put an end to weight stigma in the doctor's office. So if you have been shamed, blamed, mistreated or abused by a doctor because of your weight then you are in the right place.
Goals
64 of 100 patrons
Secure the future of the Fat Doctor! I love this journey and I'm really hoping to be on it for many years to come but right now I'm running on fumes and goodwill. I know I'm going to burn out eventually. 100 patrons will give me a guaranteed income that will allow me to reduce my hours and sustain this journey long term. Ensuring an end to weight stigma in the medical setting is a marathon, not a sprint. And I need to find a way to keep it going longterm.
