About Future Economy Collective

Future Economy Collective was started to create SOUTHPAW— a flexible use community space and volunteer run cafe, which would support grassroots organizing efforts and mutual aid projects in the New River Valley.  While the space has operated as a mutual aid hub and community resource since March, we are still in the process of launching the cafe and becoming self-sustaining.

The money raised here will go towards getting this space ready to make the income that can sustain us and be redirected into the community. Part of that includes maintaining our mutual aid distribution program.

Our Meal and Supply Box Program provides food, household items, PPE, and childcare supplies to families in crisis across five cities and counties. Box recipients range from folks who have been put out of work due to COVID-19, to immunocompromised and elderly folks. This mutual aid work is fueled through community support: material and monetary donations. Each week we spend roughly $150-$300 on groceries to supplement the donations we receive, and are able to translate that into approximately 80 boxes a month for local families.

Patrons committed to monthly donations would be directly contributing to supporting and feeding those most vulnerable to COVID-19, poverty, houselessness, and hunger in the New River Valley. The Future Economy Collective believes well-being for all is not just a dream. Will you help us make it a reality?
