In 2017 I quit chasing freelance work to focus exclusively on making art in my Tokyo studio.  My hope is to be able to share this experience, especially the lessons learned from major projects, with other creatives and artists.

So I'm asking some of you to contribute, to join me on a new journey, making more time and devoting more energy to amazing and inspiring creative work.  Your support will help me put out 2-3 blogposts a week (and a few videos a month as well) full of helpful insights around photography, writing and living a creative life.

Who Are You?

I'm a full-time artist, living and working in Tokyo, Japan.  I'm best known for my photography, particularly travel and landscape photography. After leaving school I was a professional musician and later an academic working in philosophy and cultural studies.  I left that in 2004 to go back to full-time creative work, running music studios in Delhi, Hong Kong, Singapore, & Tokyo, writing a book about creativity, a column for a major Asian newspaper, co-hosting a podcast, and starting a career in photography.

What Do You Make?

My Tokyo studio is primarily focussed on printed visual art.  I make photographic prints, mixed media photo-visual  work, graphical posters, and printed text.  While the studio is home to many kinds of experiments, in music, sound, electronics, video, and other crafts, the focus is on understanding what it means to live well and then expressing those insights through physical products.

What Will You Do With This Money?

I've started a podcast, Seventeen Trees, which as you can imagine, takes some work.  Each week the podcast will explore living creatively, simply, and in harmony with nature.  The patreon page is a way to sustain the podcast and hopefully help it to grow.
