I'm here to help facilitate learning and studying traditional rural American music. It's commonly called Old Time Music. I play Fiddle, Banjo, and a little guitar; all in traditional styles that I learn either from 78 RPM records and field recordings, or by tracking down people who knew and learned from the musicians I admire and convincing them to show me how to play their style. There was once a great many styles of music that were particular to certain towns or county's across the US, but as the radio became more widespread, more of them began to disappear. I try and learn the various aspects of a certain regions music that set it apart from the neighboring or popular sounds. It's odd, but it's what I love. I would like to help spread this music and use Patreon as a platform to reach people who are interested in learning or hearing this music. I plan to do this through-
  • Livestreamed performances
  • Lessons
  • Tutorials and explanations
  • Features on specific artists or 78 RPM records in my collection
  • General chats on history, style, or anything related to the music or my life

My great great Grandfater, Eck Edwards, on the left. An old time fiddler and fiddle maker, and my inspiration.

I'm also teaching myself instrument building and will have a lot relating to the journey of building my first instruments up on here as well.

Basically what I'm lacking is the time and somewhat the funds. I work a lot and make enough to support my family, but as I do more of these artful endeavors, I need to shift the income to reflect the time I'm spending away from my normal job. I need tools and supplies for my shop as well, but that is at more irregular intervals since I'm learning as I go what I really need compared to what I want.

I also own, currently live in, and am trying to convert into a wood working space a 200 year old, historic log cabin in downtown Vernon, IN. It's called the Sweet Apple Cabin and I will be posting more information on the history and from within it as time goes on.

What it all goes to!
-Living. Plain and simple; this is the first way it will help. As I try to transition more into full time building and playing it will help to keep up with the normal expenses of life. The Sweet Apple Cabin also takes a significant amount of upkeep as well that sometimes can become very expensive.
-Recording and Production. It takes a huge investment any time I want to produce a new project; whether it's a new album or new merch, it takes a significant amount of capitol to get it all done. I have to rent studio space, pay for engineering and mastering, pay the artists I want to collaborate with on designing, buy physical inventory of anything I want to sell. It's a big undertaking for a single person working on their own.
-Gear. I'll use any donations to help upgrade my existing instruments and sound gear and to build better setups for selling merch at live shows.
-Tools and shop supplies. I am using the most basic of tools for my Luthier tasks now and very much need to invest in more specialized tools. I need better gouges and chisels, better and many more clamps, more brushes, and of course all the wood and chemicals that end up becoming the instruments.
-Advertising. This is a big one that I end up dumping money into. Facebook, fliers, newspapers; I've learned to use many different avenues to get the word out to people.
