I'm a musician palying progressive-jazz from Switzerland with my band: Final Step (finalstep.ch).
Creating music is a very exciting task, but there's a lot of difficulties to overcome nowadays. Money is the first one...

Help me keeping my work going along with my band and we will keep playing music for you!

Booker: you can book our band fonr one show in one place of your choice in 2015 (February-April).
BEFORE buying this one please contact me privately, just to make sure everything is ok (traveling to China would be very expensive compared to going to Italy...).

Matteo Finali started the FINAL STEP project in 2003, to propose quality music on the jazz scene through a group of young musicians from Canton Ticino, Switzerland. The project took shape thanks to the help of saxophonist Max Pizio. Together, Finali and Pizio have been able to come up with innovative compositions that feature tunes of fine jazz style and improvisation whose rhythms are rooted in ethnic music, rock, funk, and blues. Over time, Finali (electric guitar) and Pizio (saxophone and Akai EWI) were joined by several professional swis musicians including keyboardists Gabriele Pezzoli and Frank Salis, bassist Gian-Andrea Costa, and drummers Italo Pesce and Rocco Lombardi.

In 2010, with a group of musicians who had played together long enough, the FINAL STEP project produced its first album, published by Tetraktys Music Label, Giubiasco (Switzerland). DESERT TROLLS was released on March 19 of that year and was welcomed by both the public and critics. After the album was published, the band played in many clubs and festivals throughout Switzerland. In particular, FINAL STEP performed on stage at the concert held on December 2, 2010 within the festival Tra Jazz e Nuove Musiche organized by the Swiss national broadcasting service radio station Rete Due, and at the concert held on May 20, 2011 within the festival Aspettando Estival that precedes Estival Jazz Lugano.

In March 2014, FINAL STEP introduces itself with a new proposal, UNCLE JOE'S SPACE MILL, maintaining the intense and captivating rhythms of the first album, but adopting sounds that are more acoustic, and influenced by Balkanic, Middle Eastern, and North African folk music. In FINAL STEP are now involved, in addition to Finali, Alessandro Ponti (piano, keyboards, hammond – Italy), Francesca Morandi (bass - Italy), Dario Milan (drums – Italy) and Silvano de Tomaso (percussions – Switzerland). Max Pizio (sax, akai EWI – Switzerland) and Yuri Goloubev (double bass – Russia) partecipated as guests on the record.
The band held the first concerts on the stages of PardOn Jazz 2012 (Teatro Paravento in Locarno, August 7, 2012), Lugano Jazz 2012 (August 9, 2012), Aspettando Estival (Lugano, June 7, 2013), and at Teatro Unione in Riva San Vitale (June 20, 2013).
Uncle Joe's Space Mill was published by Altrisuoni on March 2014, includes 8 songs and is enriched by an official video clip and a single (published on the 6th December 2013) and two video clips of live performances that were shot during the opening Uncle Joe’s Space Tour 2014 date scheduled on April the 5th at Teatro Unione in Riva San Vitale.
After the release the band played during the 2014 Tour on 5th April at Teatro Unione in Riva San Vitale (TI – CH), partecipated at the Jazzahead in Bremen (Germany) to promote the album, on 27th July at the Jazz Matinée in Chiasso (TI – CH), on 1st August at VaJazz Festival in Varese (Italy), on 8th August at FestyCharme in Charmey (FR – CH), on 22nd August at JazzIn in St. Gallen (SG – CH), on 27th September at Jazz In Bess in Lugano (TI – CH) and 10th October at Teatro di Banco (TI – CH).

Now it's time to make a strong concert schedule to get people involved in our music! Nowadays the big problem with live playing is sustaining traveling and accomodation costs. We still are not a reknowned band and it's hard to get playing opportunities outside of our country (Switzerland), so that's why we need your help!

The Impact

If you like our music you could help us in different ways:

  • Buying or downloading our CDs
  • Helping us organizing a show near your hometown (you may know someone who organizes events)
  • Book directly our band from here (either for a private show for your business, or if you own a club or run a festival)

Risks & Challenges

Most of the times the answer from evet promoters is: you're asking too much. That's not correct: we're asking the money to cover all the cost a traveling band (6 musicians and one sound-engineer) has to cover: traveling expenses, accomodation are the most important. And of course we need to have a fair amount of money for every show to keep for ourselves (we have to live with this money).
Along with this way of funding we're working along with other associations as well as private sponsors, in order to achieve funding for what we hope would be a strong 2015 tour schedule.
  • We want to get there, Final Step wants to become a truly touring band!
  • We just need shows opportunities, we packed the house in our previous shows, and people were really happy with our performance.

Other Ways You Can Help

Some people just can't contribute? No problem that doesn't mean you can't help us:

  • You can help by just promoting our campaign, help spread the word with your friends, colleagues, family. That's how it works: mouth-talking is the best way to help things happen!
  • You directly know someone who organizes event? You can introduce us to that person: he may like the project and help us reach our goal!
