Fiona Oakes started Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary in 1993 with the aim of proving love, care and a forever home to previously unwanted or rescued animals, both domestic and ex-farm. The Sanctuary operates from Fiona's home as well as 5 satellite sites and provides a home to around 450 animals and birds including over 80 horses, 25 cows and 120 pigs.

Fiona has been vegan for over 45 years and in addition to caring for the animals she is passionate about the promotion of her cruelty free lifestyle which she does through sport, specifically to show that her veganism is not prohibitive to performance.

Despite having a knee replacement & no knee cap from age 17, and being told she would never walk properly again, Fiona holds four Guinness World Records in the marathon and is the fastest woman to run a marathon on all 7 Continents and the North Pole !

When she set these records in 2013 she won both the North Pole and the Antarctic Ice marathons in course records and she has also completed the grueling marathon des sables no less than 3 times.

Keegan Kuhn, Co-director of Cowspiracy and What the Health has featured Fiona's work in his latest film, Running for Good, which was launched on 11th October 2018 and is available at the Running for Good website

Fiona has just returned from the Atacama Desert where she has put her new signature "Oakes Cross Running Shoes" from Wills Vegan Shoes through their paces - 150 miles of rock and sand at 10,000 feet altitude. Winning the final stage of the race and first overall in her age group, Fiona was thrilled with the new shoes she helped design - even thinking of changing her name to "Spider woman", such was the grip on these babies! - Best of all, each pair sold generates 30% of the cost to Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary.  See Wills Vegan Shoes for details.

The feed costs at the sanctuary exceed £10,000 a month and Fiona's vegan outreach program costs such as travel and race entry are in addition to this and becoming increasing difficult to manage.

This account has therefore been created for people who what to support Fiona as she promotes the vegan cause through her sport and athletic achievements as we believe it is essential to provide a roll model, particularly for for parents who can see for themselves that there are no long term detriments being vegan - Fiona has done all she has done on a vegan diet for 45 years !!!
