About THE FIRST 50 GIGS: Guns N' Roses

THE FIRST 50 GIGS: Guns N’ Roses and the Making of Appetite for Destruction is a five-season audio and video experience that will take you back to the mid-1980’s Hollywood to experience the play-by-play origin story and rise of Guns N’ Roses on the Sunset Strip.

The First 50 Gigs will put you right in the front row to experience a living history of one of most iconic bands to launch out of Los Angeles and the making of their seminal debut album that transcends generations.

With first hand accounts from the people how were there, combined with one of the most comprehensive collection of photos, videos, and memorabilia ever captured during a band's formative years, The First 50 Gigs will be the final word on this incredible moment in rock n' roll history.

Marc Canter, third generation deli owner of the legendary Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles, never imagined he was documenting history when he picked up his 35mm Canon SE camera and a cassette recorder as a teenager in 1982 to record his best friend’s garage band, Tidus Sloan. His friend was Slash, and Marc soon found himself at the beginning of an incestuous revolving door of musicians and bands that would ultimately become the Appetite for Destruction line up of Guns N’ Roses.

"If I don't tell these stories, they die with me."
Marc Canter

With the help of rock n' roll photographer Jack Lue, Marc documented the rise of GNR; from Slash’s garage bands to Hollywood Rose to the first gig of the Appetite lineup of GNR on June 6th, 1985 at the Troubadour. Luckily for us, Marc kept his camera kept rolling right up until the band’s last performance on the Sunset Strip in 1987.

This video podcast and online experience captures their raw, blood-sweat-and-tears performances as well as their intimate moments, including original gig memorabilia, show flyers, ticket stubs, set lists, press clippings, and handwritten lyrics. The First 50 Gigs offers an explicit, first-person experience that fans won't find anywhere else.

Season One will trace the individual threads that led to the first Troubadour show of the Appetite lineup. This includes Slash's garage bands, Tidus Sloan and Road Crew, as well as Hollywood Rose, L.A. Guns, and the original Guns N' Roses. Guests and interviews include: Slash, Duff McKagen, Steven Adler, Rob Gardner (LA Guns, Guns N’ Roses), Chris Webber (Rose, Hollywood Rose), Steve Darrow (New Hollywood Rose), Adam Greenberg (Roadcrew), Nadir D’ Priest (London), Paul Lipke (KISS Roadie), Jack Lue (Photographer) and more!

In seasons two through five, we'll follow the iconic lineup through every single gig they played, as they climbed the Sunset Strip food chain, wrote and recorded Appetite for Destruction before launching as the last great rock n’ roll band out of Hollywood.
