Five- Dots is a Midwest-based bi-monthly digital publication working to interview and document local artists, curators, gallerists, architects, and designers in the region about their studio and work process as a paradigm to look at bigger issues such as the financial, social, and mental impacts of being a creative entrepreneur. Five-Dots intends to introduce the public to the 'creative class' at various stages within their careers in hopes that we will contribute to the destigmatization of careers in the arts or non-profit sectors.

Five-Dots is a collaborative effort between Megan Bickel, multi-discplinary artist, and Cassandra Zetta, photographer and LGBTQ activist. It began in July 2016 with the intent of opening up the lines of conversation between artists, designers, curators, functional artisans, and the public. Our mission is to maintain a free platform that provides engaging, stimulating, and encouraging conversations that will debunk the myth of the "starving artist". We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, and it's with your assistance that we can continue to instigate (what we think are) thoughtful, heart-felt, practical, and pragmatic conversations.

Since its beginning, Five-Dots has been a labor of love. A project born for artists, creatives, and fans alike — to share about the creative process and it’s financial, social, and mental impacts, while aiming to de-stigmatize a career in the arts. And as with many start-up ideas, we began without financial funding, but with real passion in our hearts to share the lives, thoughts, triumphs, and struggles of regional creative entrepreneurs.

Now, here we are, having completed forty interviews, asking you to help us keep going. With hopes to continually share the work and words of successful and emerging artists, makers, curators, gallerists, and creatives, not only locally, but potentially expanding throughout the Midwest, and perhaps, even beyond, funding is essential to our growth.

We are currently a two-city operation, with Megan or Cassandra traveling each scheduled day of interviews. While we schedule two interviews per day to keep costs low, we take a loss with every day of interviews and its associated travel costs, monthly website fees, every advertising promotion for a new launch to reach our audience and grow readership, and in time away from our careers. But yet, we’ve kept on because we believe in this little publication, and hope you do, too.

If you’d like to support us, please consider being a patron. A small monthly contribution of $5 will gift you with exclusive photos not published on our site. And if you just can’t get enough, your generous donation of $10 will provide you with an extended artist interview, complete with the exclusive photos! With this option, you never miss a beat!

We hope you'll consider supporting Five-Dots, knowing that you are also helping to create opportunities for more visibility in the regional art scene, while providing education and information for an industry that is so deeply integrated into our society, yet often overlooked.

Thank you for reading and for your generosity.

We love creating the opportunity for creative people to voice their story in a practical, relatable way. But we need to fund the project in order to continue. For $1 a month you can feel good about contributing to a project that hopes to do nothing but help.
