I have a persistent voice in my head. It's demanding, unfailingly supportive, and incredibly arrogant. Almost like a parent. Whenever I encounter something new, my voice goes "How hard can that really be? I bet you could do it."

The rest of me, the part that has to live with that voice, has a huge thing for competence. HUGE. One of my biggest drives is wanting to feel skilled and unfazed. This extends to how I handle The Voice of Arrogance, so I'm trying to grow that skill.

This means that when The Voice tells me to try something, I'm going to see if I can get good at it, and take you along for the ride. It will certainly include hideous, hilarious, tragic mistakes. It will likely include some musings on the nature of learning. It will hopefully include some lovely before-and-afters, finished products, things I wish I knew before I started, new things to be boring about at parties, and personal fulfillment.

Learning to do things is hard work, and supplies are often expensive. It also has the side effect of producing things (more things than I can use, and more things than I have a home for). I bet we can work something out about this whole "drowning in projects and demanding inner voices" situation.
