About Fraser Brown
For five years, I worked as an innovative finance consultant with governments and global conservation organisations mainly focused on reforestation. Some of my ideas won international acclaim. However, in 2018 I embarked on a lonely journey promoting "transition tokens" because I believe they are the only mechanism that will save us.
For many, "blockchain" is a buzzword cluttered by a thousand applications, approaches and issues. Amidst this clutter, it is hard to spot transition token projects such as www.swytch.io (thinking coming out of MIT and Cambridge University) and it's partner the Energy Web Foundation. Swytch created a blockchain token that incentivises the transition from fossil fuel to renewables. It is just the beginning.
This space is unlike sustainable finance. There is significant international momentum to "green" finance and, therefore, consulting in that space is profitable. No-one yet knows - let alone believes - that transition tokens can deliver everything from low-emission vehicle adoption to changes in land-use. Because the ideas are nascent, the role of creating the necessary mechanisms and promoting them is, for the time being, a voluntary one.
I need around $1000 per month to live on and supplement some regional travel to support this mission. I anticipate great fun with Patreon supporters including monthly calls to discuss work in progress mechanisms and road-test them with other minds and allies.
