** UPDATES 7/30! Exclusive content and more **
Hey all, a lot has changed since we launched the show and this Patreon, including the departure of my pal Mr. Andrew Hayward due to schedule craziness, and the addition of my new awesome sidekick in podcasting shenanigans, Cassidee Moser! With some changes in the works, we've decided to begin doing some exclusive Patreon supporter only content as a thank you for helping to sustain the show and cover our expenses as best as possible. We'll try to do 1-2 of these special, off-the-cuff "minisodes" each month, so if there's anything particular you'd like us to cover, get in touch!
NOTE: these supporter-exclusive minisodes are FREE but they're only for supporters. You won't be charged extra for them, though we'll continue doing 2 core episodes each month.
I'll also be updating this page with fresh info shortly. Thanks!
--(old details here...updating soon)--
Who are we?
We're Nathan Meunier and Andrew Hayward -- two long-time freelance writers who've made a living covering video games, tech, and lots of other geeky stuff for a ton of publications, including Nintendo Power, Mac|Life, EGM, Official Xbox Magazine, IGN, Polygon, PlayStation: The Official Magazine, Macworld, GamePro, and...well, let's just say we get around. Nathan is also the author of the Game Journo Guides Series, among other books. What is The Freelance Game?
Back in March 2014, we launched a bi-weekly podcast called The Freelance Game, which focused on offering shop talk, insider advice, and special guest interviews relating to freelancing in the video game industry. We had a great first season, and you can listen to all of our episodes for free at the show's site (linked above), on Stitcher Radio, or by subscribing on iTunes. The show, much like our freelance careers, has evolved in interesting ways since it first got rolling. After a short break over the holidays, Season 2 is launching in March 2015, and we're expanding the scope of the show a bit.
What is this Patreon thingy?
You'll notice that our Patreon is not super fancy. You won't find lots of extra bells and whistles, or promises of bonus content for your patronage. Why? Because it's basically a nice way for you to "buy us a cup of virtual coffee" per episode as a way to support the show. We've been paying out of pocket to keep the show running, and Nathan spends hours planning, recording, and editing each episode. We're looking to recoup our ongoing hosting costs, cover our equipment expenses, and if we get enough, pay ourselves a tiny bit for the time and effort we put into making the show informative and helpful each episode. (Especially Nathan. He does so much! -AH)
The podcast is something we love doing, but we're both super busy with our freelance routines, and it takes takes quite a bit of time to put these episodes together and keep it all rolling.
The show will remain entirely free. But if you've enjoyed the podcast, found it helpful in your own writing career, and would like to support us, to continue making it a viable pursuit, you can pledge a minimum of $1 per episode to help minimize our out-of-pocket expenses.
Or not! It's totally cool, either way. We just wanted to give you the option. Please keep listening (and sharing it with others), even if you don't plan to contribute anything.
Also, while we appreciate your ongoing support, you can always stop at any time. If you want to pledge more, then AWESOME. We're committing to two episodes a month. Thanks in advance for your patronage!
