Gal’s Guide is building the first independent women’s history library and research center in the United States to preserve, collect, share and champion women’s achievements. We will act as a catalyst to creators who utilize our resources to guide others to these amazing role models who have been waiting in the shadows of history for too long.

Women’s organizations have a long history of starting libraries. The American Library Association accredited, “Women’s clubs with the responsibility for initiating seventy-five percent of the public libraries now in existence in the United States.” And yet, in the United States, there is no library dedicated to women’s history that is not connected to a university or run out of a bookmobile.

As the first independent women's library, the Gal’s Guide Library & Research Center will not limited access by student enrollment, government budget cuts, or government shutdowns.

Gal’s Guide founder and researcher of the award-winning podcast Your Gal Friday, Dr. Leah Leach, uncovered a massive need while working on the show, “We had gals whose own memoirs were out of print and dangerously close to being out of circulation. We learned that historically-significant letters written by women have already been lost. We are not alone in our struggles to uncover half of the world’s history. Imagining a resource that can act as a catalyst to many more researchers and creative’s is a game changer for everyone in a post #MeToo society."

Gal’s Guide Library & Research Center will specialize in books written in a woman’s own voice such as memoirs, autobiographies, academic research papers, letters, and journals. We also strive to have a wide range in our collection from children’s books, casual reading, e-books, audiobooks, and multimedia such as documentary DVDs. Our digital and physical books will meet the requirements that they are about a woman and/or written by a woman. We also will not be limited to one aspect of a woman's life, location, or time period. We will carry titles about women and by women around the world.

We have podcasts and articles that showcase the research the library is undertaking. We also have events throughout the year to celebrate women of history and the women are in the midst of making history.

Help us build this welcoming space the make's history interactive and propels all of us, forward.
Your contributions mean the world to us. Thank you for finding value in what we do.
