GamePress is creating resources and tools for gamers

GamePress began its journey when Pokémon GO launched and we decided it would be a fun project to make a website dedicated to the game. We had no idea that our project would grow to where it is today, where we now support many of the top mobile games.  Every day we work hard to make GamePress an even better resource for gamers.

We're asking for your support to keep GamePress going.  Advertising is our only source of revenue. And as you know, ads can really suck. We've had to deal with all sorts of malicious adverts that hound our users and spend thousands per month trying to fight them back. That said, they sometimes get through and affect both our community and team members. In a nutshell, surviving solely through advertising revenue has been difficult for us.

We at GamePress are in a very interesting place as a company.  When you look at successful businesses revolving around news and information, speed is king more often than it should be. Content should and always be more valued in these environments, but this fact has steadily declined over recent years. Speedy information isn't always correct and most importantly, is often designed with click-bait content that's filled with misinformation or completely inapplicable facts.

Alternatively, some wiki sites can be great resources but can have issues with quality control. (Huge kudos to ad-free wiki sites though!) Even worse, many of these sites that run ads more often than not do not compensate their contributors and roll out more and more intrusive advertising to maximize their returns on investment. Some of these sites have hundreds of thousands of hours of work invested in them and the resulting ad revenue instead goes to the company and their investors!

We do the following to set ourselves apart from others:

Content Availability

  • Provide the community the most comprehensive and up-to-date content we can for the games they care about at no cost. We will never charge our users for the content we provide on our website. Ever.

  • No publications will be held behind pay walls or time gated for 'premium' users. Everyone gets the same facts and information they need when they want them.

Writers

  • Go through a thorough vetting process to find people who love what they do in each game's community. Our staff's background is about as multifaceted as it gets and hails from all over the world - but we all have something in common: We're all passionate about the games we play!

  • Fully compensate all of our staff and contributors with a fair wage - well above nation-wide minimum wages - by paying hourly for the work and effort they put into our site, regardless of the individual success their content sees. When they're passionate about their publications and work, we make sure they see a tangible, fair and legal compensation. We believe this results in thorough, quality content and less click bait articles without any insight that you'll see when they're paid out by cpm (page views).

Transparency

  • Be straightforward to the community. Moving forward, we may use our Patreon site in addition to our Discord server to notify the community about what we're doing to improve your experience along with any new content we plan to support. All of these updates will be available for all viewers, patrons or not.

  • Find more opportunities to collaborate directly with Publishers and Developers of the games we cover and amplify the voice of our users. We've been fortunate to make connections with a number of publishers and developers for the games we cover. We plan to continue this and provide our community exclusive opportunities - from interviews with popular Voice Actors to behind the scenes opportunities with the developers of your favorite titles both here in the states and across the pond!

With Patreon, you can make a monthly contribution based on your budget. We also have goals that we're hoping we can achieve together.

If you subscribe as a patron, you'll gain access to a completely ad-free experience throughout our entire network. All it takes is your Patreon account and a GamePress account and you're good to go!

You'll also be part of the community that shapes GamePress' future. Not only do you get to enjoy an ad-free/guilt-free experience, we'll hold regular polls that help decide what new features and content GamePress should focus on next.  Your support will give us the resources to revisit some old ideas - like the GamePress Mobile App - that we couldn't afford before.

Thank you for your support :)
