We will record and release Carpe DM, a monthly podcast on gaming news and social topics.  The awful pun title is non-negotiable.

About

I'm a freelance writer and professional editor with multiple years of experience in the newspaper industry.  I'm also a lifelong roleplayer and gamer, and probably more than a little bit on the left end of the political spectrum.

GamerXP is an online magazine dedicated to covering all aspects of geeky hobbies, whether that's around the table with your friends and a stack of D20s, sitting in front of your Playstation, or cracking open a comic book.

We launched the site back in March of 2014, and strive each week to provide funny and thought-provoking content, alongside industry interviews and reviews.  We've also recently started to branch out into video and audio content!

We also strive to provide a clear and socially conscious voice:  gaming is for everyone, and putting a light on those parts of the industry that aren't properly recognizing and promoting diversity - and celebrating those who do - is a major part of why we continue to do what we do.

Wait, How Does This Even Work?

We provide magazine-style articles, online videos, and other content for free online each week. It's a lot to keep up with for a team that is mostly me, myself, and I (though we have regular - and much appreciated - guest contributors), and your pledge will not only support current writers in continuing to spend time doing this week to week, but also allow us to seek out more voices to flesh out the site in different directions.

By offering us a small monthly pledge, you are actively helping us to keep this thing going, and - hopefully, with time and more voices speaking up - helping to provide a forum for non-traditional voices in tabletop gaming.

Why Should You Pay For This?

The economy is tight and jobs are hard to come by, and as much as we love talking about this stuff, it's a huge time investment week to week and keeping things running is a struggle when you're busy trying to make rent.

We've tried other avenues - affiliate linking, and some very minor Google AdSense advertising in our sidebar, but frankly, unless you're either huge or willing to put across extremely invasive ads it's hard to make more than a dollar or two in a month through that route.  We're not at all willing to compromise the readability of the site just to get by, so we're turning to you for the help we need.

As for what makes it worth your while, well-- we think we have a lot to say.  If you're a feminist, if you want to see more diversity in gaming:  we're right there with you and we want to talk about it

What Do We Write, Exactly?

Social Issues - As noted, we have a strong awareness of social topics and a strong desire to promote them, whether through pure editorials or research-driven essays.

Industry Interviews - We try to focus our interviews in particular on those people that the wider industry tends to ignore:  people of color, female designers, and other indie designers who have great ideas and simply lack the marketing budget to get them out there.

Humor - There's a lot of silliness in roleplaying, and we do enjoy poking fun at ourselves from time to time.
