About Me
Hi! My name is Norman and I am the creator of 'Gaming Historian,' a YouTube series about video game history.
It all started when I was looking for documentaries on video game history. I was having a hard time finding a decent selection. That baffled me. History contains the greatest stories ever told, and the video game industry has a ton of interesting ones. I wanted to share these stories with the world, so I created my first episode of 'Gaming Historian' back in 2008. I haven't stopped since.
After I graduated with a degree in history, I continued to work on the show part-time while I taught for a few years. Eventually, I moved halfway across the country with my wife and gave up the teaching life. This past year, I was able to save up enough money and work on the show full-time! It can be tough, but I'm very passionate about my work and I want to see it grow.
About The Show
'Gaming Historian' is all about the history of video games. Some topics I have covered are...
- The Universal vs. Nintendo Case
- The History of LJN
- The Video Game Crash of 1983
- SEGA Dreamcast
- Nintendo 64DD
- Game Genie
- SEGA Game Gear
-.....and more!
I've also reviewed books, games, and compared historical video games to actual history. My goal is to make my videos not only entertaining, but also educational.
'Gaming Historian' has been featured on Destructoid, Capcom, Screwattack, Retroware TV, Nintendo Life, and GoNintendo. My work has also been used as a source for Associated Press articles, research papers, magazines, classroom material, and more.
About Patreon
Until now, 'Gaming Historian' has been supported solely by advertisements and PayPal donations on my website. Patreon provides a way for fans to not only support the show, but get cool rewards too! In my opinion, it's a win-win for both parties.
Also, I'd like to be clear about this: Gaming Historian will continue, regardless of this Patreon. I won't start charging viewers. I won't stop making videos. This is just a way for fans to show their support and get some nice perks. Your contributions on Patreon will directly help the show and are completely voluntary. Got it? Ok!
About The Campaign & What You Get
I love getting a good deal, and that is how I set up this campaign. I understand that as a consumer, you have a lot of options. Look at Netflix: For $9.99 a month, you get access to thousands of TV shows & movies. So what am I offering?
For just $1 or more, you get access to every single perk.
Patreon allows you to donate as much as you want, so if you feel my content is worth more than $1, thank you! I really appreciate that. You will get access to a variety of perks, including:
- The ability to vote on select episode topics
- Access to some videos early
- Behind the scenes updates / vlogs
- Random surprises & giveaways!
The Patreon feed also allows us to interact directly. This means you can suggest topics, ask questions, leave feedback, etc.
The Goal
My ultimate goal with 'Gaming Historian' is to be the best source for video game history and knowledge. I'm thrilled to provide these videos to everyone for free. This Patreon will allow you to support the show and make it the best it can be. With this additional support, I will get more access to research, interviews, better equipment, and more.
Whether you choose to donate or not, your support is greatly appreciated. I'm excited about the future of 'Gaming Historian.' Thanks for watching!
