About John • Gaming In The Wild

Hello! I’m John, and I’m Gaming In The Wild. This is my Patreon page. Thanks for being here. 😊

I make a weekly video games podcast taking a look at the creative end of gaming. The show covers new and classic games, from indie to AAA, with the aim of providing recommendations and insight into a range of exciting titles. This year, I will also start producing developer interviews and special guest episodes.

Every new Patron actively helps the show, both financially, and through the show of support. To say thanks, patrons gain access to patron-only episodes, reviews, eShop sale recommendations, and an invite to the show's Discord community – a cosy corner of the internet to hang out and talk to me, and other gamers.

Patreon: a "why now?" backstory

In 2013, I moved to Iceland, and had to sell my console collection (and pretty much everything else). I arrived in Reykjavík with two cases, and got a job editing a local street paper. It was great, until I suffered a work-related burnout in 2019, the symptoms of which included debilitating agoraphobia and anxiety.

As sick leave began, I remembered the latest Zelda game. A lifelong Nintendo fan, I got my hands on a Switch, and spent the following months playing Breath of the Wild. The game became a window into another world; a beautiful, dreamlike place, where my worries melted away. The game helped me through a dark period. I haven’t stopped playing since.

This experience sparked an interest in the extended possibilities of games as a medium. The podcast is an exploration of that – and a riposte to the somewhat stressful high-speed tone of the wider games media. I aim to make the gentle, thoughtful, relaxed show I'd like to listen to myself, and I appreciate the presence of listeners who feels the same.

So, thanks for dropping by. Times are hard for many of us, so if you’re not in a patron kind of place right now, no worries. All listeners are appreciated anyway, and sharing the page is too. ❤️♾
Goals
17 of 30 patrons
When I have 30 patrons, I will be roughly breaking even on sourcing four great titles to review each month on the show. This is my 2021 aim – breaking even would be swell! Thank you for supporting me! :)
