So, in case you didn't know (and if you're one of my Patrons, I don't know how you couldn't know), last week was San Diego Comic Con - the year's biggest nerd con.  I was unable to attend this year. However, as in previous years, my artwork was able to go in my stead.  This year, I was able to design the invitation for a prestigious Hollywood Comic Con party. I've attended this party in the past and it is certainly one of the best parties I've been fortune to be invited to. This year, I did a Fantastic Four riff. It was a TON of fun to work on.  Not as fun as actually GOING to the party, but I'm happy to have been included.

For those wondering, elapsed time is around 3 hours on the total image from pencils to finished paint.

A few weeks ago, my friend Craig Worrell challenged me to draw a superhero.  The superhero he chose for me was Nightcrawler, who I happen to love. I've always been fascinated by the Nightcrawler. One of the reasons is that he is one of the few comic book characters to practice religion in an unironic way.  Sure, he's a demon who also happens to be a devout Catholic. That in itself is a gimmick.  But his religion is just part of him.  I find that refreshing.  And I also loved drawing this image of him.  I tried to give the drawing the look of a religious icon.  I don't think I was overly successful with that.  But it was fun to draw him either way.

I was on a tear last week doing art that I wanted to do.  Most of my  time, I'm doing drawings for clients and other projects.  But last week, I took advantage of some slow time to draw a character who has been very dear to me for a very long time. I was inspired by this video from Tested of Adam Savage cosplaying as Judge Dredd.  I took it from there and created this image.  It's not yet available as a print in my online store, but if you'd like it to be, please let me know!

It's August and it's prime wedding season. To commemorate that fact, I'm sharing a speed drawing of an image I created for two geeky lovebirds for their wedding day. Actually, it was a gift FOR the two lovebirds, but all the same, it's a pretty geeky illustration. And now you can watch me draw it in lightning speed!

I've been wanting to draw Captain Marvel for some time now and felt this would be a good a time as any!  I wish I would have started recording from the pencil stage, but it was an impromptu drawing and I didn't hit record until I was well into the pencils.  In any event, you can watch  me do the ink and paint on one of the most iconic female superheroes we have today.

In September, I'm going to be tinkering with this Patreon to make it more exclusive. I'm brainstorming some ideas and I hope to implement them soon.

One of my favorite comic strips has returned in full force this past summer!  Opus, Bill the Cat, Steve Dallas, Binkley, Milo and the whole Bloom County crew has returned for daily strips.  I couldn't be more happier! To commemorate this occasion, I did a piece of fan art of the strip.  I owe a lot to Berke Breathed and Bloomy County. The strip was my informal cartooning instructor as I used to redraw panels and full cartoons growing up. My style has been heavily influenced by Mr. Breathed's style and I felt I had to do it.

This week's Speed Drawing is a little bit different.  I was asked by a client to draw a cartoon based on a three word prompt. Apparently, he has asked other artists to draw the same three word prompt and was collecting the art. The three word prompt was Rocket, Baby and Jesus.  This is my take on those three words which reminds me somewhat of a vintage album cover.  Anyway enjoy the process and please share this Patreon with your friends if you are enjoying my work.

Happy last September Monday everyone!  I've got a special speed drawing to share with you this week.  Recently I was asked by the clothing company The Curated Tee to draw their October design.  For those of you who don't know, The Curated Tee does limited run children's clothing with designs done by various artists.  They asked me a few months ago and I documented the process of drawing it up.  You can watch me create the design and then on October 1, you can actually PURCHASE the design!  Woo-hoo!  Be sure to check it out and if you have little young ones running around, this makes a great Halloween type garment.
