Gone are the days where a developer has to start every project by defining their own IO, data structures and sub routines. Modern developers rely on frameworks, third party libraries and other niceties that use to take hundreds of developer man hours before writing any business logic. Being a maintainer, and focusing that level of effort is a labor of love, but a labor not the less.
If maintainers aren't supported then communities won't grow and there may not be a fresh package when you need a bug fixed. I urge you to get involved. We don't want a tragedy of the commons.
So What's Patreon?Patreon (this site) is a service that enables you to support a creator through monthly payments. It's a way for someone to support themselves doing exactly what they're passionate about: whether it's creating books, videos, art, and in my case code (or something more abstract like project maintenance). By users supporting them directly, creators won't need to resort to doing unrelated side work, quick, low-quality content to pay the bills, or even sponsorships for specific features.
Why Donate? If you or your company uses open-source software or appreciates the work I do in open source, please consider supporting me directly so I can continue maintaining it as my full-time job! I think it's pretty clear that software actually costs something, and that even though it may be offered freely, somebody is paying the cost.
You'll be helping to ensure I can spend the time not just fixing bugs, adding features, releasing new versions, but also keeping projects afloat and growing. Think of investing in me not just for the output of my code but my continued role in the open-source ecosystem.
