About

I'm an Orthodox Christian, PhD student in Theological Studies at Trinity College in the University of Toronto, father of five, grandfather of two, former priest, and founding editor of the globally renowned Orthodoxy in Dialogue.

I hold a BA in Sexuality Studies (2013) from York University and an MA in Theology (2015) from Regis College/St. Michael's College, both in Toronto, and am an alumnus (2014) of the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto. Earlier in life (1986-89) I completed the course requirements for the MDiv at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary near New York City.

My doctoral research—summarized briefly in
Father Pavel Florensky and the Sacrament of Love in the June 2018 issue of The Wheel—focuses on Florensky's theology of same-sex love published in Russia in 1914. I introduced my work with Florensky very briefly in Conjugal Friendship on Fordham University's Public Orthodoxy in May 2017.

Have a look also at my MA thesis,
A Bed Undefiled: Foundations for an Orthodox Theology and Spirituality of Same-Sex Love, and A Bed Undefiled; A Partial Retraction, for a more complete survey of my approach to the subject of same-sex love in Christian life.

As a student I am underfunded, and as a writer, unpaid. Your support will help me to meet my living expenses while I finish my PhD, continue to manage, edit, and write for Orthodoxy in Dialogue, and begin work on a small book tentatively entitled, Conjugal Friendship: Orthodox Theological Reflections on the Sanctity of Same-Sex Love.

If you prefer to make a one-time or occasional contribution, you may send your gift to [email protected] via PayPal. You'll be listed permanently as a Patron on Orthodoxy in Dialogue's Patrons page.
