I've been creating since forever. My first "zine-ish" creation was in Ms. Harrell's 3rd grade class at Eli Whitney Elementary School. Students who finished their work were allowed to plunder through a magical box of discarded dust jackets. Our mission, should we choose to accept it, was to write and illustrate the empty book based on its title. We could stick to the story, or create our own. I still have one that I created based on the story "The Five Chinese  Brothers". Looking back, I believe Ms. Harrell might just have been a visionary. At any rate, I continued writing and drawing and I just can't stop.

For the past 19 years I have been busy raising two boys. Creativity has come in fits and starts, but it's always been present. I have written a memoir based on my journey being the mom of a child with special needs. Last year during NaNoWriMo I wrote my first YA novel. This November I intend to write my third book. The memoir is with a potential agent - fingers crossed. The YA novel is currently on my desk awaiting edits, with hopes of getting published. And the third novel is in my head begging to be written.

In the spaces between all of that madness, and the madness that exists in my own mind, lies another adventure I want to begin. And that, my fellow creative beings, is where (hopefully) you come in.  I haven't been able to work a paying job for 19 years. Now that my boys are older and can, for the most part, manage themselves, I want to work and create some sort of income for my family, but I also want, need, have to keep creating.

I applied and was offered a job out of the house recently. Sadly, my current struggles with major depressive disorder, and disabling anxiety, I lasted two days. However, the need to have an income of some sort still remains, as does the need to create.

Out of that situation was born the idea of Paper Soup. Soup has always been a comfort food for me, and my writing/art has always been my safe place. Paper Soup would be a place for me to share my thoughts, to figure things out, and settle the static in my head in a creative way.

I hope that Paper Soup will offer comfort to others and allow everyone a safe place to settle in for a little verbal and artistic nourishment now and then.
