About Glasgow Zine Library

Glasgow Zine Library (GZL) is a community archive and zine library based in Govanhill, Glasgow. It opened in September 2019. As well as housing over 800 zines in its collection. GZL hosts workshops, community meals, film screenings, discussion groups, reading groups, children’s arts and crafts, social clubs, and more.

All events are community focused and designed to be affordable (often free). GZL also programme Glasgow Zine Fest, an annual event which sees zine-makers and appreciators from all over the world flock to Glasgow for one weekend.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, GZL has had to temporarily shut out doors to the public. Without the ability to welcome visitors or hold public events in our space, and with public funding more competitive and less available than ever, 2020 is a precarious time for the library. We still want to provide the best for our community, and since June we have been operating two afternoons a week as a food bank collection point, as well as delivering a reduced programme of events online via zoom and other platforms. Please consider supporting us and helping keep our doors open during these very difficult times!

About zines: zines are self-published magazines made and distributed cheaply. Their focus is on cultural and political resistance. They emphasise marginalised voices, DIY, and creativity in all forms. Zines are accessible and cheap, and circumvent traditional methods of publishing.
Goals
$110.43 of $160 per month
GOAL 3: TAKING ON THE WORLD
If we reach this amount, we can afford all of the above PLUS the ability to pay for materials needed for our workshops.

We host everything from quilt-making, to 3D sculpting, to comic-book design, to basic zine-making and we need materials for these things!
