About
In addition to being a cranky feminist blogger, I am a game designer, illustrator, and writer living in the wilds of Canada with a wonderful spouse, a baby, and two slightly broken cats.

So who am I? Well, I’m a game
designer, illustrator, and writer who is the brain behind the popular feminist
gaming blog Go Make Me a Sandwich. I stepped away from blogging in 2011, despite
the huge popularity of my blog. But I’d like to get back into blogging about
games, and I need your help to make it worth my while.
Paying for a blog? How does that even work?
Everything written for my blog will be published free of charge for the internet-viewing public. When you pledge money, that supports me in devoting creative bandwidth to creating content for my blog. Each time I publish a post, I receive money according to your pledge amounts.
But have no fear! You can set monthly limits on your pledges, so if I have a month where I’m feeling particularly voluble you don’t wind up breaking the bank. In fact, if it helps you feel comfortable with pledging, I encourage you to do so! Also importantly, this is not a permanent commitment. You can withdraw your support at any time.
Why start a Patreon when I used to blog for free?
Let’s face it, the economy is tight, and with a toddler in the house I have to maximize the financial return on my creative output. As much as I love blogging, I just can’t justify the amount of time and energy that it takes away from paying work such as the freelance writing I’ve done for White Wolf or my own independent game publishing projects.
But I still feel like I have important things to say, so I’m turning to you, oh reader, to help make blogging a financially viable activity for me.
Why should you sponsor me?
I’m a blogger with a proven track record of excellence, capable of producing a wide variety of content. I can write pieces that are satire, analytical, or simple conversational commentary. I work hard on the content that I produce for my blog, and have a unique perspective as someone who is a game publisher, illustrator, and someone with a fine art education.
If you’re a woman who games, or know women who game, or are a feminist interested in game culture, or you’re a gamer that has a daughter, or you just want to explore a different perspective on games and game culture, then you’ll enjoy reading my blog.
Types of posts I have written in the past are:
Numerical analysis of game art for prevailing trends – where I go through (often quite large) bodies of art and look for trends in the differences in portrayal between men and women.
Doing it wrong – where I use my arts education and background to draw over terrible game art and explain graphically just how broken the anatomy women in game art often is
Gender swap – where I take particularly ridiculous examples of wildly sexist game art and re-draw it as male, as a way of highlighting how silly sexist art is
Blogosphere commentary – where I comment on a wide variety of things happening on the internets concerning game culture and women in gaming
Convention reports – I go to one or two game conventions a year. Often I like to take lots of pictures and report on my experience as a woman at a game convention.
How often will you publish blog posts?
My goal will be to post about once per week. I expect that I'll average anywhere from 3 to 5 posts per months to start.
Thank you for your support!
