Grub Street Grackle is a post-post-ironic literary magazine based in Irving, TX, publishing adventurous, original fiction; image-driven, musical poetry; humorous commentary with a spirited sense of irony; and awesome, quirky art. The seventeenth and eighteenth issues were produced with funding from successful Kickstarter campaigns.
We also produce an occasional blog at grubstreetgrackle.com.
How This Works
When you sign up to become a patron of the Grackle on Patreon, you're agreeing to send us a certain dollar amount (it can be as little as $1) each time a new issue is released. When we announce that the issue is out, your card will be charged for the amount you pledged.
What You Are Helping Us Do
With your help, there are a lot of things the Grackle can do that we couldn't do otherwise. For starters:
- Produce the print magazine more frequently.
- Distribute the magazine free in Dallas.
- Pay contributors for web content.
- Design in-school poetry tutorials around the poems published in the Grackle.
- Promote the magazine and website more aggressively.
To thank you for believing in the Grackle, we will honor your patronage with one of the rewards detailed at the bottom of this page.
More issues of Grub Street GrackleRight now, when people ask us how often the Grackle comes out, we have to say "whenever we have time for it." We'd like it to be three or four times a year, but that's not realistic without a substantial, dependable budget. We can make this happen together!
Pay blog contributorsWe already pay contributors to the print magazine: artists and authors alike. But there's not enough left over to compensate authors for contributing to our excellent blog. Happily, the authors behind the Grackle are enthusiastic about it, and volunteer their time and effort to the blog, and will probably keep doing it for a long time to come.
But we don't think that writers should go unpaid, just because they're willing to work for free. And we don't think readers should have to wait for us to have spare time to write great articles. If you like the blog, and if you want to help us post more often, becoming a patron is a great way to show that and reward these fine people for their dedication.
Let it be knownPeople who have read Grub Street Grackle and follow the blog at grubstreetgrackle.com know that it's not like anything else out there, and that the writing and art we publish is outstanding. Everyone should read this stuff, right? But not everyone knows.
Word of mouth is great. Please, yes, tell your friends about the Grackle. Share posts from the website via email or on your favorite social network. Bring people to local events. But we need to do some substantial paid advertising, too. Every pledge towards this second goal will help to support promotions and advertising to reach a wider audience.
Imagine DallasWhen you support Grub Street Grackle, you're also supporting the other literary projects of our new nonprofit corporation, Imagine Dallas Literary Arts, Inc. We believe poetry should be part of the everyday life of all people. Imagine Dallas is incorporated to cultivate an appreciative, discerning, mainstream audience for literary writing, especially poetry, in the Dallas area. We imagine a future in which the name “Dallas” is synonymous with poetry, and plan to reach that future through the following programs:
- In-school poetry appreciation tutorials
- A network of poetry workshops
- Publication and distribution of chapbooks and anthologies
