A short video about us!

Our Story

Grand Prix Scout began as a collaboration between a motorcycle road racing coach and a geospatial expert. We saw a lack of statistical analysis in the MotoGP series regarding rider performance and *risk factors*.  All major sports have a well structured set of performance statistics that educate fans and arm constituents with useful facts which help to grow a sport's popularity.  MotoGP's popularity is huge with a reported viewership of over 400 million in 2018 yet  accessible data driven performance analysis is virtually unavailable.

In 2017 we set out to develop a platform that could generate indexes that reflect a rider’s historical performance, profiling their consistency and speed for every racetrack in the series. Before each race we generate and combine indexes which identify every rider’s strengths, weaknesses and performance potential for the upcoming race.  In the 2018 season, we covered all 18 races and build a track record of successfully forecasting the riders most likely to make it to the podium and the trajectory of future champions.  We not only tell the fans what is likely to happen but why.

The Team
Our team is self funded and made up of a core group located in Virginia, California and Spain. The backgrounds of the team include motorcycle road racing, data science, physics, computer science and meteorology.  We have an ongoing internship program with the University of California, Santa Barbara. This internship program supports higher education by providing data science experience to students in an extremely dynamic sport. The program also helps us find passionate, high performing individuals committed to our mission.

How We Do It
Grand Prix Scout creates a variety of indexes based on factors that are highly correlated to performance. The indexes are created through reference data that enable us to understand historical performance and likely outcomes ahead of the races. Our indexing methodology allows for continual learning and improvement in our forecasts and the likely reasons behind performance trajectory shifts. The main indexes take into account a variety of factors including speed, consistency, track/sector difficulty, weather, machinery, and rider history. The methodology is scientific with invaluable art in execution by the team.

Racing is more than a fast bike with a talented rider
It is a mosaic of variable circumstances

Our Mission is to provide MotoGP fans with performance analysis and predictions for every rider on every sector for every race.

Our Goal is to educate fans, increase MotoGP’s popularity, and promote talented riders.
