Hello. My name is Grant Reynolds. And this furry little fellow is Henry. I'm an artist and cartoonist. Henry is a dog who loves human food, taking naps on the couch, and belly rubs.

I've been self-publishing comics since the mid-90s, and have been featured in numerous magazines and anthologies. Top Shelf put out my book  Comic Diorama in 2009, and it was selected as a Notable Comic for Houghton Mifflin’s Best American Comics in 2011. My book Hypnotic Induction Technique was an Ignatz nominee for Outstanding Mini-Comic in 2012. And my piece Radio Silence was selected for Houghton Mifflin’s Best American Comics in 2017.

Henry is an older pup, but he can still perform his famous mid-air spin when it's meal time. He belongs to some close friends of mine, so I know him pretty well.

In 2015 I had to go on a long medical leave due to chronic pain in both of my hands. Then in 2016 I began to experience a series of other health-related issues (including a partial-hernia, a full-hernia, and gallstones), which continued to keep me out of work. I had hernia surgery and physical therapy.

But in 2017 the pain in both of my hands returned (this time diagnosed as De Quervain's Tenosynovitis), and by March 2018 I had exhausted all of my allotted medical leave time. Still unable to function properly at work, I decided to leave my job of 12 years. I put most of my belonging into a storage unit, and moved from Chicago down to Peoria, IL.

Now I'm staying with those same close friends, Henry's family, until I can get back on my feet again. I still have to get my gallbladder taken out, and I'm currently taking more physical therapy for some post-hernia pain in my abdomen and upper legs. Fortunately I now have Medicaid, but the process for treatment is slow. I continue to do hand-strengthening exercises twice a day, which helps with the hand pain, and with the use wrist guards and other modifications I've been able to return to drawing (in moderation).

Henry, of course, helps when and where he can. Spending quality time together has put a smile on my face, which is sure to aid in my recovery. I've become something of a live-in dog nanny, and he, in turn, has become my dog-muse. I enjoy documenting our days together through a comic called Good Boy, which will be available to you on the Patrons-only blog (along with other fun stuff).

With your help I can continue moving forward, recovering, making art and comics, and saving money for my next step: moving into a new place. After my physical therapy is finished and I've had my gallbladder removed I intend to find a new job. And step by step I'll continue to rebuild my life!

I'll continue to visit Henry (and my friends!) as often as I can.

I'm very optimistic and excited for this second chance, and I thank you for your support!
