Hi Everybody!

In the beginning of 2007, I walked into the Gracie Academy on a whim, looking for a novel way to stay fit. I had no way of knowing on this random Thursday night that I started on of one of the most positively transformative journeys of my life.

Over the last twelve years, I feel I've happened upon a kind of magic that transforms people into self-possessed individuals, grounded in vulnerable, tough work.  I've also had the great privilege of serving as an instructor at the Gracie Academy (and now Gracie University) for the past nine years. In that time, I've made it my mission to not let the illumination that jiu-jitsu has offered me to stop with just me.

But for all the thousands of classes and people I've had the privilege of training with, I feel somewhat like I've been building castles in the sand. Beautiful as they may be, each lesson I teach can feel too ephemeral, having too short a reach.

Thus, the idea for Grounded Grit was born.  My ambition is to bring these well-balanced, life-affirming perspectives--with a heaping side of awesome jiu-jitsu instruction--to everyone the world around, full-time.  If you like what I'm doing, for the price of one sustainably grown, fair-trade, artisanal, organic, free-range, farm-to-table, hand-poured cup of coffee a month, you are not only alleviating the stress of having the equivalent of three jobs (web developer / instructor / content creator), but you also help me produce more content.  I might even be able to hire an editor to shorten the word count on my pitches.

Whatever you decide, Grounded Grit videos will always be free!  Teaching jiu-jitsu is my passion, my introspective escape, and my means of purposeful expression in serving others. I promise to do the best I can to deliver the most pithy, practical information possible for use in your life's journey, and when it comes time to play a game of death (read: train jiu-jitsu) with friends.

Thank you for taking the time to read through all this, especially that one sentence. You know the one I mean.

Eternally grateful,
Alex

Where your money goes:

- Currently I have three jobs: web-developer by day, jiu-jitsu instructor by night, sleep-deprived content creator everywhere in between.  By supporting me on Patreon, you give me the opportunity to focus more on projects with greater impact and reach.

- We can invest in production: as of this writing, Grounded Grit is an exclusively bootstrapped operation. I film with my smartphone, edit with the freeware on my MacBook, and rely on the generosity of my amazing friends for a million different things. With a little capital, I can try to bring better production quality to each video and compensate some well-deserving volunteers.

Thank you so much for all your support!
