This talk I gave last year pretty much sums up what I do:
Touring all over the world for seven years with my band, Formidable Vegetable inspired me to come up with some awesome ways to communicate the ethics of:
The band has managed to do some wonderful things with your help: we made 4 albums, played at Glastonbury Festival (with the Rolling Stones & Radiohead!) and even were featured by the United Nations who used one of our songs for the International Year of Soil!
The thing about not working a 'normal' job is that you can never really predict when you're going to get paid. I don't mind, because I live very cheaply (currently in an old fire truck that runs on waste vegetable oil) but even though touring, recording and making music videos is a lot of fun, it can also be expensive and very energy intensive.
Which is why I've decided to ask for the support of anyone who is up for being a grass-roots patron of some fun, creative and world-changing ideas executed by a crazy muppet on a ukulele with too much energy.
Here's how it works:
- I'll release things from time to time (this can range from weeks to months)
- Those thing could be songs, videos or something completely random! The things will evolve as this community grows.
- For your support, things like recordings of new songs and music videos will be sent to you as soon as they're ready - before anyone else!
- You decide how much to contribute per thing and you can change the amount or cancel at any time. There’s also rewards for contributions. I think you'll like them.
If you haven't seen Formidable Vegetable or aren't that familiar with our work, here is a music video we made with our amazingly talented friend Dropbear:
...and this other one made by Bigfish is also heaps of fun:
...not to mention, the guy who's been helping me out since the very beginning with animations and illustrations - Oz Thomas, who did the cover of the new album and a bunch of our earlier music vids:
If you've made it this far, THANK YOU in advance for considering being a part of this exciting community experiment supporting both the arts and regenerative education in such a grass-roots way! I promise to crank it out the best I can, so please feel free to give what is within your means and I hope we get to meet up soon!
lots and lots and lots of love,
PS. If you're not sick of watching music videos yet, here's another one that teaches you how to make tasty fermented cabbage:
