About Gwenda Bond

I write fiction for kids, young adults, and adults, among other things. My work includes the Lois Lane series (Fallout, Double Down, and Triple Threat), which brings the iconic comic book character front and center in her own YA novels, and the Cirque American series (Girl on a Wire, graphic novel Girl Over Paris, and Girl in the Shadows), about daredevil heroines who discover magic and mystery lurking under the big top. I also co-write the the Supernormal Sleuthing Service with my husband author Christopher Rowe, which features kids who live in a hotel for monsters in New York City, and I created Dead Air, a serialized mystery and scripted podcast written with Carrie Ryan and Rachel Caine. And I got another dream gig, writing the first official Stranger Things novel, Stranger Things: Suspicious Minds, a prequel to the hit series. I co-host the Cult Faves podcast about the strange world of cults and extreme belief (currently on hiatus).

I'm launching this Patreon for two main reasons: 1) a little extra financial support and 2) community building. One of the most formative works in my thinking about the arts as a profession is Lewis Hyde's The Gift, in which he talks a great deal about the gift economy but also about making a living. I've always believed that sharing our processes and connecting with others is valuable, and that giving extra access and stuff to friends and fans is the way to be. I also miss that closer-knit sense of community I used to get back in the days of more regular blogging when I was just a scrappy young writer with a day job desperately trying to sell my first book and writing honestly about that process. Now I'm a slightly older scrappy writer sans day job trying to sell my books to an audience I hope loves them and I want to write honestly about that process.

And so, here I am on Patreon, where I hope I can offer you some things of value in exchange for monthly patron pledges at whatever level you can afford. I plan to share with you more behind-the-scenes, early peeks and extras about projects I'm working on, writing advice, reading notes, and soon new fiction created just for you. Perhaps a podcast! Whee!

You will officially be part of my secret agent army. Enter the mission HQ and let's have some fun together.

I will also be revealing the secret to life.

(As soon as I figure it out. I think maybe it involves being upside down, but that might be the aerial hobbyist in me.)

For those who can't chip in, I'll still do a monthly letter. Never fear. You can sign up for my free newsletter here: or find me at my website:
$62.06 of $150 per month
This is a welcome chunk of change to help out with things like our health insurance. I'll send every patron a postcard when we hit it!
