Hello, I’m Hamish, and I made Virus: The Beauty of the Beast, an interactive documentary about the structure of viruses; but since you're here you probably knew that!

I also used to write about level design, for eg Rockpapershotgun, Kotaku, and Destructoid. Much of my writing there was based on my experience creating Music of the Spheres, a puzzle-shooter that tries to do similar things to The Beauty of the Beast. I also made The Stranger Loop, a small game that was a proof of concept for the "interactive documentary" format. The rest of my work can be found here.

If you want to say thank you for The Beauty of the Beast that would be very very much appreciated! You can make a one-time donation to me by signing up and then deleting your pledge after the first of the month :)

Now, I do plan to make more things like The Beauty of the Beast, and if you want to sponsor their creation then, goodness me, that is *massively* appreciated too. But let me be open about what it entails...

The thing is, I’m currently on a (funded!) PhD programme. I’m creating virtual reality software for teaching about and researching the structures of proteins and DNA. It's very fun! But, this is to say: until 2020 you are not likely going to be directly interested in what I’m spending my time on (the exception to that is if you happen to be a structural biologist! In which case, my interface will be for Coot).

At the same time though, I will be putting out the odd recorded lecture on science and / or interactive entertainment, maybe the occasional super small game. Pledge, and you'll be kept abreast of what I release. But like I say, when I finish my PhD, I want to make things like The Beauty of the Beast full-time, and I will need some savings to do that. So quite simply, savings for future games - that is what all the money you send me will be going towards :)
